Christian
That is where I am off to today!! Love Christmas shopping, but like many, hate it in December. Like to have it all done by November at the latest, Crowds!!
Cate in NZ
Christmas in September...yikes, too soon for me I will have to get organised soon though, if I want the cheapest sea mail delivery option for any heavy gifts I need to do it by October, and I hope to be able to make up a couple of parcels and then send them that way to Mum & MIL for distributing to family and friends at the appropriate time We're making a very determined effort to break with tradition this year, no point in having a roast turkey and imported out of season sprouts...that's just likely to induce homesickness, I'm fancying the idea of a barbie on the beach personally, if it can be arranged

Cate in NZ
Do they have Christmas in NZ then Kate?? Yup,still a Christian country here, celebrating the birth of Christ. However as I understand it they'd rather celebrate His birth by surfing or swimming, or chucking a few prawns on the barbie , than by spending hours tramping around over crowded shops and stuffing a turkey Busy time of year for you thouh Ginette, are you in full preparing for Christmas swing yet? Guest
Well we started learning a few Christmas Carols in July - just to get ahead of the rush really! I've still got to finalise the 7 pieces for Advent, but have most of them sorted out. It's a busy time - we're taking part in the Big Sing for Songs of Praise this weekend and next. Harvest anthems for October to learn - and I've been asked to take in some hens for the Harvest service. I'm going to have to do a scrubbing session the day before and then be up early to get the eglu and run and hens to church before we start the orchestra practice at 9:30am! Still choosing which girls to take - I keep asking them who'd like to go and telling the naughty ones that they definitely won't be having a day out! I was only joking about Christmas in NZ . . . Mrs Webmuppet
I have started applying myself to Christmas. Mainly because I make a lot of the pressies myself or have to mail order them. Plus my Dad comes to us sometime before Christmas to drop off and collect pressies (he acts as the family postie......making sure we all exchange our gifts and he gets to visit all the family at the same time). In an outbreak of efficiency ( spurred on by Christian) I have made the cake, puddings and mincemeat. I like to have all the pressies bought by the end of November and the cards done by the end of the first week in December. I avoid the shops in December only venturing to the supermarket if I really have too.
Tina C
I stand up for the right to be in denial about Christmas coming. I refuse to spend a quarter of my year thinking about that one day (I know its more than one day for many of you but hopefully you will understand what I mean) Anyway I have to have my birthday first - Christmas cannot possibly start until after my birthday

I refuse to spend a quarter of my year thinking about that one day (I know its more than one day for many of you but hopefully you will understand what I mean) Anyway I have to have my birthday first - Christmas cannot possibly start until after my birthday I agree with you Tina. My aim is not to go 'Christmas Shopping' at all, ever! I usually do one day in November to get those stupid presents for the stupid people i don't really know but have to exchange gifts with. Apart from that, I am an opportunist. If i see something somewhere (and I don't shop very often) I buy it, whatever time of year it is. I bought some Stocking fillers in Salisbury cathedral shop during August. I also listen out all the time for things which people would like and keep a list. If I know what I want, it's not the same as Christmas shopping somehow, certainly not a chore. I prefer to chip away at it in a very understated way so that with just a little bit of effort at the end, it is all miraculously done. I certainly don't walk around thinking about Christmas from now until December! and for me, real preparations cannot start until after Advent Sunday. Cinnamon
Everybody's getting one of these. http://www.pedlars.co.uk/page_53.html They're wonderful. There is a patch of blue sky amidst the storm clouds with the sun streaming in and mines whizzing round throwing rainbows round the room. Cheers me up no end!!! Love these, & they are MUCH cheaper on eBay. Just got one for Cleo & one for a nieces pressie

I don't have that problem wwith Phil when he stays... he is under no illusion that this is a female house, and uses the loo sitting down. I pointed out that if he left the seat up then I would shut it on his ...... The only other male in the house has been neutered, so I mean business! Shirl
I started my pressie shopping about a month ago. I saw a few good bargains so I bought them whilst they were there. We have about 35 people to buy for though so have to start early.
