We still haven't got it on although was very tempted earlier on. I put another layer on and even hubby who is a hot bod put another layer on.

Still not got the heating fixed - but we've coped quite well today!

Brisk walk with the boys this morning to collect berries and kept busy all day. Gas fire on very low in the lounge after tea, boys tucked up in bed with their new hot water bottles!

All is toasty and warm and I feel very virtuous!

I wimped out and put the heating on last night I figured I could justify it for two reasons! 1. It's October and 2. I was so cold my nose started running. I'm resisting putting the fires on which I think is good as we don't have radiators in the rooms with fires so it was beef stew & dumplings for dinner tonight and snuggling up under a furry blanket to watch tv Mind you I have got my lovely warm flannel bedding ( yes, I know, even my Mum says I'm an old woman) and I also put a couple of wheat bags in the bed!

I am just being stubborn now. It is 16 degrees in my house and whilst not absolutely freezing it is too cold to do anything. In fact it seemed warmer outside picking the apples.

 

I don't want the heating on, I really, really don't. I wish I had a fire, but we haven't even got a chimney.

I lit the Rayburn this morning - there was frost on the ground and it was jolly chilly. I have kept it going all day on lumps of old decking and it has just gone out now ( I forgot that wood burns so much quicker than the usual anthracite - but is free!) I now have the heating on but can feel the temperature falling

I don't want the heating on, I really, really don't. I wish I had a fire, but we haven't even got a chimney.

 

Mum doesn't have a chimney but she is flat roofed so there is a stove pipe (I guess that's what it's called) going up throught the ceiling to a metal chimney.

 

It makes the room even warmer than my fire - which has the stove pipe going up the chimney and an added vent in the chimney breast to chuck out a bit more heat.

No flat roof either. Just a modern ish house built at a time when they thought open fires were old-fashioned. I really miss my open fire.

My 89 year old Grandad came over today so woodburner lit since midday house is really toasty

Hubby turned the heating right up earlier. We had been out in the cold all afternoon and it took me hours to warm up but now the room thermometer is saying 26 degrees (heating is set at 20) and its boiling and I've had to open a window. The dog is hyperventilating

Hubby says its because the house is so well insulated but I seriously think that something must be wrong with the heating.

I put it on for about half an hour yesterday, just to test it as I hadn't done so since it was serviced last month, and I didn't want to be caught out if it suddenly gets really cold.

wooohoooo - it's warmed up this morning.

 

I have a school governors meeting here tomorrow (I invited them here as Mum is away and I wouldn't have been able to make the meeting otherwise - its' all very well getting a babysitter but then I have to wake James up to take them home!). I was really worried that I would have to put the heating on rather than give them all a blanket!!!

Absolutely no chance of that!!!!

 

......because, one second you're freezing and lighting the woodburner........

 

 

.....and then almost expiring from the heat, opening doors to heat other rooms, using hand-held fans..........throwing clothes off............OH has just brought Hot Chocolate to go with the fire he's just lit.............but you need something long and cold.....with ice please........

 

This morning.......I am sitting in front of an open window, wearing a T shirt...........but I think it's because the weather is milder and it's not just me...........

ohh lucky you - I wish I had been I'm going away this weekend so wanted to get all the chores out of the way - now sitting down with a well earned cup of tea and chocolate biscuit

We went to AnnieP's in Wiltshire. As usual the weather in Wiltshire was diabolical - we are used to beautiful sunshine all the time in Dorset ( ).

We had a lovely time with her and her two dogs and our three dogs (having a dog on your lap may not be the done thing as far as dog training is concerned but it is a really good way of keeping warm)

Blooming chilly here on Friday so I put the heating on for 10 minutes just to take the chill off; there's not enough time in the morning to get the stove going properly.

 

The stove was pumping out heat all weekend and kept us hot and toasty, but this morning (Monday) was very cold and we had our first frost, so the heating was popped on again. I light the stove in the evenings though.

It turned quite mild again here yesterday and today, so the stress is over and I'm back in a T-shirt with no need for heating.

OH has got it into his head that he would like a stove as he has a load of free wood at work. However we live in a 3 year old house with no chimney

You can get an external flue put in Paola, just ask around the chimney sweeps locally to you to see if any of them will do it.

OH and I have started the perennial battle of the thermostat!! Every morning I turn it down a bit, and change the times so it comes on later and goes off earlier, and every evening he changes it back!!!!!

 

However I will win, I'll use emotional blackmail if I have to!!

This sounds exactly like our house! Every time either of us walk through the hall, the thermostat gets turned up/down and we both keep changing the heating times!

I've got my feather and down winter duvet on now, and Biscuit was tucked right up behind my knees last night - we were lovely and toasty... who needs a man?!
