Snowy
Middle son went straight from school tonight to his friends house for tea. When I went to pick him up I had to laugh - friend lived at the house that we were thinking about buying about 4 years ago (I hadn't recognised it from the address as I'd been given the number when I knew it by it's name). Anyway, when we viewed it, it was an old, 4 bed cottage, beamed ceilings (very low in places), stank of cat wee and chickens (the owners seemed to have them in the house all the time!), and OH was completely put off by the amount of work needed. I always wished we'd gone for it as I felt it was only cosmetic and it could be made beautiful again. So I got talking to friend's Mum about this and she told me the saga of the house: tame rats in the garden (the old lady previous owner wouldn't let hubby kill them and she encouraged them!); a kitchen and garage that flooded every time it rained; kitchen floor covered with slugs every morning ( ); dead rats under the floorboards upstairs causing it to rain maggots into the downstairs rooms! ( ) - the list went on! What a horror story! It's certainly put paid to my dreams of 'if only ...' (although it is looking beautiful now - nice to see it all cleaned up )

Egluntyne
Goodness! We do have the occasional slug trail on the kitchen doormat at Egluntine Towers.

jlo
I once lived in a student house with a slug problem. Treading on them in bare feet is ! Sleeping on a mattress in a friend's digs as a student, I woke in the middle of the night feeling something wet by my foot. I thought that there had been a leak but, when I put my hand down to investigate, there was a HUGE slug IN MY BED!!!
Snowy
Sleeping on a mattress in a friend's digs as a student, I woke in the middle of the night feeling something wet by my foot. I thought that there had been a leak but, when I put my hand down to investigate, there was a HUGE slug IN MY BED!!! EEERrrggh!! That just makes me cringe all over Nasty Funnily enough, she was also telling me that it was the coldest house she had ever been in. She showed me the two fireplaces she had opened up and was wondering if open fires would help. I think I sold her on the idea of a woodburner or two! dancing cloud
I bet you feel so relieved!! The description of cold reminded me of a house I went to look at that was cold in ways that had nothing to do with temperature. I felt obliged to linger for about 10 minutes to be polite, but almost ran down the path to get away - very Scoobey-doo!
chickencam
Our dining room is a bit like that
Seagazer
One of the houses I lived in when younger was like that. We stayed about a year, very bad vibes. I think you had a really lucky escape, its bad enough that slugs are outside, let alone in the kitchen
