Lesley
I wish we had a speed trap outside - we take our lives in our hands every time we try to get out of the drive Freezing fog here this morning with a heavy frost. Don't know the temp. - I must get something to check it with.......
clootie
I totally understand Lesley, we're the same here. I'm thinking about painting a box yellow and having it peeking out of the trees. I did speak to the police and apparently there has to be a fatal road accident before they'll look at lowering the speed limit here!! So many crashes but thankfully, no deaths....yet. Oops, it's not too cold here at the mo. Freezing last night but just damp this morning so far. Edited December 31, 2008 by Guest

chickencam
Heavy frost with a light dusting of snow flakes -3 when I let the chooks out and their water was frozen 1cm thick. I broke the ice and fished the bits out with my bare hands - fingers still tender now - thinking bits of ice not good for chickens next think I know they are all pecking at the bits and enjoying ice lollies for breakfast, so much for the warm water I had brought for them Sky very heavy and snow coloured but too cold for that and none forecast

Gosh Ali you are colder than we are - I was in elgin the other night and it was minus 3 but a different cold nearer to the coast than we are here and ours is a drier cold. Chicken Licken
It went down to -6.1C here last night and is hovering around 1C now. Cold and murky today. Putting off the dog walk again until a little later this afternoon!
chickencam
I let the chooks out at midday because they were sitting on their run perch looking perished. They have been scuttling around the garden eating ice and snowflakes and trying to work out why the ground won't move when they scratch

Ana's flock
Cold, dull, boring here. Went to check how the new chooks were doing and to take some sultana/raisin treats for all of them. As soon as I opened the door of their enclosure all the old-timers rushed out into the garden for freedom. The four Norwich girls stayed there looking perplexed at the exodus as they enjoyed the whole bag of dried grapes! Must keep an eye on my escapees as they like to wonder around the frozen pond and sometimes the ice is too thin. Betty had a lucky escape last year as I rescued her before she sank into the frozen waters...

Lesley
Ooooh! Snow! At 8pm last night we still had the permafrost and freezing fog and I was telling my son to drive carefully as he was designated driver for the night for his friends..........by 2am when we went to bed it was positively balmy No frost, no ice, no fog - I stood outside in a T shirt listening to the owls in the willow tree. Slight frost this morning but much warmer than yesterday.
