sarahs
Hi all I've had my 2 girls for a couple of weeks now, so they are now settled in and freely ranging. They have taken to following us around the garden which is delightful. I tend to leave my back door open when it is a nice day to get some fresh air in to the house. This morning, they ventured in to the kitchen ... when I heard their little squeaks I dashed in to the kitchen to find them tucking in to the cat's 'Felix good as it looks'!! I rapidly removed the food to a higher place - has anyone else had this happen too? Also, do you think there is any chance of them producing eggs this side of spring? They are now 20 weeks and their crests are getting rather red! Cheers all Sarah
Ain't Nobody Here
Oh, I think you'll find that more common than you'd think . I'm sure there have been tales of a chicken finding her way upstairs and laying an egg on mummy's pillow . I think cat/dog food is considered quite a delicacy for chickens . Re the eggs, are they crouching yet? That's usually a good sign.
dancing cloud
I had to invest in a baby gate to stop my little monsters invading the kitchen and scoffing the cat food. On one occasion Tubby Puddy was actually eating it, and they shoved her off and hoovered it up in front of her -her face was a picture I do sometimes add a little cat food to their porridge as they are ex-batts and three of them are still rather short of underwear - they really love it

Guest
Same here. I have borrowed a baby gate and have to remember to shut it before I let the girls out or they are straight in and eating the cat food. My poor, rather mature cat, hates it when they are free-ranging as they see him off!
Chickvic
Yep, mine have done the same. I've had all 3 cats looking like this but they wouldn't move the chickens. I've just fed my cats their wet food and have had all 3 chickens up the back door trying to break in! They now recognise the sound of the cat food tin being opened!! Snowy
Mine mug the dog and steal his food! Poor thing was trying to eat his tea the other day and Pom literally elbowed him out of the way and nicked it from under his nose! When I let them out they try to race me back to the kitchen to get in before I can shut the door
The good lifers
Ha ha- my ginger nut usually comes in the kitchen and watches me cook- she did a lap of the ground floor and then had to let her out of the conservatory. one likes to come in when the crickets on and one the football- they have conveniently only ever pooped on the door mats, Have to watch the ginger nut as she likes to peck the oven!!!I hope she is not trying to commit suicide!!I love it when you come home and they come racing up and watch you through th windows!! tom123
I found my 2 girls one day in kitchen up on the work surface eating the grapes! They love coming in the house! Tom
Chickaboo
Oh I have given up. my girls have free access to the kitchen - if the door is shut Phoebe pecks on the catflap untill I let her in I think the chicken in the bedroom, referred to was pherhaps Pheebs herself. She will take any opportunity to enter the rest of the house, particuly upstairs (which is strictly not allowed as I have beige carpets!). She goes looking for people, she loves people, and thinks she is part human
