dry in a very cool oven (60deg!) for 12-18 hours. Of course if you live in seriously sunny climes, you could dry it in the sun....some chance here!!

Sha x

I could do an EXTREMELY cool oven - damn thing packed up about 3 weeks ago....must remember to get it fixed.

Yes I have manged to live without it - fortunatly we are a house with 2 kitchens so I just use Mum's oven instead. Actually that keeps mine cleaner too!

Here is one of my non food hampers. Unfortunately, we had to deliver it now, as we won't be back in Scotland before Christmas. Will post the baked goods :roll:

have a look at this facebook album

as several of the items in there are for my hampers. The fudge will be festively wrapped of course :D All the little bottles of liquers etc are for hampers too, plus I have more jam and lemon curd to make and some little petit fours.

DH has designed some lovely labels for me for the booze :D

see these links;

and I have some festive fabric to make jar toppers for the jam and curd.

I also saw a lovely idea in a craft book in the library today about how to make your own seed packets. My friends said we've inspired them to start growing their own next year so I might make them up some home made seed packets to get them started :D

I also borrowed a book about origami so I might make a few festive bits of paper folding to pop in or use as decorations.

I thought I might put some of this in my hampers.......

We checked the bee hive today and the bees had made some free comb and filled it with a beautiful pale, crystalline honey - they've been very busy on the Mahonia. It hasn't been capped though so I'm just trying to find out if it will keep now I've taken it out :?

Christian, apart from the Christmas cake, what's in your non food hamper? I'm intrigued as to what's in the brown paper bag and what is that far right? Also, what do you pack the box with, looks too nice to be straw? It looks very good by the way.

I think I've finally narrowed down what I'm putting in mine.

I'm using BHWT jute bags (which are a gift in themselves I think) with:

A bottle or two of either limoncello, raspberry liquer, strawberry ratafia or simple strawberry wine.

A jar of jam; either pear and vanilla or blackberry and apple.

A jar of lemon curd.

A jar of apple chutney.

some boozy rhubarb petit fours.

some chocolate truffles coated in cocoa or toasted chopped nuts; some plain and some flavoured with amaretto.

some 'Pepparkakor' (Swedish ginger snaps) cut into christmassy shapes.

some yankee samplers

some drawer scenters.

possibly a bottle of home made pear wine (not sure, needs more quality control testing :lol: )

and possibly some personalised items like seeds in home made seed packets.

I hope that's enough  I won't know until I put them together...

Poet - Lakeland sell paper 'Shred' for using in hampers........I don't think Christian got his from there though. I use their gold and cream one.

The honey comb is delicious as it is - I ate all the trimmings, or you can spread it on toast.

I asked one of the beekeepers last night and it would appear to be honey from the Mahonia - it could have been just sugar from the fondant feed that is in there but it has such a glorious flavour that it is more likely to be the Mahonia. We know they've been very busy there every time the sun comes out. The other main source of food for bees at this time of year is ivy flowers......and apparently, we would know if it was that as it has an "acquired taste" and is usually just used by the bees in early Spring.

I only took one piece of it as it is the feed that the bees are storing for use in Spring.
