Anyone ever seen a ghost?

Recommended Posts

Following on from the premonitiona thread, has anyone ever seen a ghost or had some sort of supernatural experience?

I did once,when I was about 9.

I lived in a nightclub with a huge long garden (it was about 1/3 of a mile long), & was playing by myself at the bottom of the garden.

It was a man in army uniform with his back to me,& a baton in his hand, which he was beating on his other palm.He had an officers cap on.

Needless to say,I sprinted that long distance back home & told my folks who laughed it off,but I heard them talking about it in private later & it was an apparantly well known ghost in that area.

I know that this experiences are something you either believe or you don't ,& if this had not happened to me then I may be more sceptical than I am now.

You probably all think I am mad now :lol::lol:

I have a ghost here. I've never believed in ghosts, or otherwise, didn't really have an opinion.....BUT

When we lived here the last time around (we've bought this house twice, with a five year gap inbetween when we sold up and moved elsewhere then came back) I used to see a man standing at the doorway in the gardenroom looking out onto the farmland, when I was in the kitchen. He was dressed in 18th/19th century style clothing and I imagine he was probably the farmer.....I would see him, then he'd turn and look at me and disappear. He wasn't at all threatening and it didn't worry me, once I got used to it....when we moved back here a couple of years ago I saw nothing for ages, but recently I've seen him a few times again, both in the garden room and in the garden. My neighbour can't believe I can live here on my own.

My mum told me that she's woken up in the night before here and wondered why dad was sat on the end of the bed, then when she moved her hand to one side, she's realised dad was actually next to her.....but again she's not threatened by it.

The lady who lived here for about 25 years before us, told me she used to hear a baby crying and giggling in one of the bedrooms on the top floor.

My cats definitely see things that I don't....they will both literally watch an imaginary person walk across the room, even though there is nothing there.

The house is a Georgian farmhouse so I'm not surprised that there are ghosts or whatever here. My brother won't go in the cellar at night for all the money in the world! He also hates getting up in the night if he needs the loo as we have really long corridors by the bedrooms, about 45 foot long, and they spook him out.

"Ooops, word censored!"ody is ever going to want to come to my house from here, are they?!!!:wink:

I'm not crazy, honestly! I would have never believed in ghosts until I was here.....

I have just remebered another experience I had about 16 years ago when we first moved in to this cottage (thanks Omletina for jolting my memory)

There had been an old boy living here & he died, leaving the house empty for several years. He used to rely on our neighbours to help him if he got into difficulties,by banging on the wall between the houses.

it got to be so frequent that they even fitted a gate betewwn the 2 gardens for ease of access.

Anyhow, the house was a WRECK when we moved in & our neighbours were really patient about all the noise we would make trying to make the place habitable.

One morning I saw my neighbour & she asked what we had been doing the night before,as there had been an awful lot of banging on the wall between the 2 houses, late at night.

We had actually been out & she went as white as a sheet & said that it was strange because it had been the old boys birthday that day

I have had nothing but good vibes from this house 8):P

My grandfather was a vicar and as sensible as they come but he used to exorcise ghosts. My mum and dad when they were engaged were driving back to the vicarage and an old man literally walked out in front of their car right opposite the church. Dad slammed on the brakes but was surprised not to hear a bump. They got out ( the church is in the countryside) but he was nowhere to be seen. When they got home they told my grandfather who told them he was a familiar sight at that spot and had died a long time before. He himself saw him occasionally when walking the dog last thing at night. He too said the dog used to see him long before grandpa did and would sit down and growl.

I saw a man in the woods near us when I was walking my dog - he disappeared behind a tree and never came out again! I looked all around thinking it was my eyes playing tricks but he had just gone.

A house I used to stay in as a teenager was haunted by a nice lady - our friend's daughter once told her mum she had had a nightmare but was reassured by her mum stroking her hair - only once she had gone did her mum tell us she had done no such thing

Lots more tales like this - I am fascinated.... :)

The building where I work used to be a convent and a nun is often seen on the upstairs corridor. I haven't clocked her yet.

I'm sure there was a ghost thread a while back. I'll see if I can find it.

once when knocking for a friend when I was about 12 I saw

a man through the window in her sitting room. When I asked her

who he was she said there was no one else but her in., when i described him she

found a photo album and I easily picked him out. The man I identified and had seen was her dad who had died when she was eight long before we had become friends.

Both myself & my OH saw my grandmother on seperate occasions at my mums house stopping and looking in whilst walking past the bedroom door she had sharedwith me when alive.

My ED eventually had to have her own house blessed by someone from the spitiulist church my Eldest daughter who is probably the most sensible & grounded of all my children phoned me one day in a terrible state she had gone to lie down and was woken by somone or something holding her down and pinning her to her bed plus other weird things happening, the house was brand new but built on the site of an old papermill, once blessed it all stopped but other neighbours reported weird things. My Daughter dosen't live there anymore. I never felt settled in her house but couldn't explain why her new home is completely different a totally different atmosphere I dont mind going there.

I think some people are more sensitive and intune to these things than others thats all

It has never bothered or worried me my thinking is if they wouldnt harm you when they were alive why would they harm you when they are dead

I forgot to mention my spooky experience when vacuuming the third floor staircase some months ago....I was vacuuming away when I suddenly felt uneasy, and even though it was a warm summer day (yes, really, probably the one day), the temperature dropped right down to literally freezing and I could see my breath in front of me. I couldn't see anything but it was a distincly nasty feeling all around....I stopped and scarpered, and haven't vacuumed that staircase since (will do it when there is somebody here next time, but not on my own) - good excuse not to vacuum!

I seem to remember the people who used to live here telling us that the top floor was used for the farm workers and servants and that an old lady had fallen down that staircase. I was too scared to ask them what happened to her!!

I've never physically seen a ghost but shortly after my mom passed I caught the scent of a particular cream I used to sooth her skin with. It was a vert particular cream from the Dead Sea called Ahava. My mom passed at her home in Boston and at the time I was living in Florida. On the night of my birthday I was awoken by the scent of this cream. It really gave me great comfort to think mom had visited.

On another note....While visiting a Concentration Camp in Germany I caught this image on my camera. This is the remains of the crematorium.

And this photo at Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin. This is a section of the Berlin Wall, and it looks to me like souls escaping through the hole in the wall.

Having looked at Angels4's pics reminded me of a photo I've got somewhere. Will have to have a hunt for it BUT the story behind it is...

Charlie, my puss cat died a few years ago, and to avoid her being disturbed we decided to bury her under the lawn rather than in a border. The following Spring, we had lots and lots of daffodils pop up in the borders but there were quire a few gaps so I decided to take pics of them so that when the Autumn came I would know where to plant some more bulbs. When the photo came out there was an orb right above where Charlie was buried, which when looked at closely, had the face of a lion in it - very much like the one out of the Narnia stories

Steady on folks, it's not Halloween yet!

I've not seen a ghost but my mum, who is not prone to dramatisation saw her late mother standing at the end of her bed on at least one occasion.

There is a really interesting book called "The Vertical Plane" it's written by Ken Webster. I worked with his sister and met some of the people who were in the book. It's about his experiences of living with a ghost. One of the fascinating things about it was the visits he had from "Men in Black" and this is way before the film was even thought of. People claiming to be from an organisation but upon checking the organisation knew nothing about them. I'll probably get a visit myself now. :anxious:

Edited to say - Just checked and this book is £35 on Amazon! I'm pretty sure it's out of print.

My goodness I have just read through the other threads and there are some fantastic stories on there. Egluntine, your story about your mum's friend really struck me. Has anyone seen "The Orphanage"? Scary films are not my cup of tea usually as I can't forget them after they've finished but I saw this and it was terrifying - I ended up whimpering into my husband's shoulder in the cinema. Sorry to go a bit off thread but it's about children....

Hi

I can not answer this for my better half but I have felt things happening through out my

life. Not as far as I know have is seen a ghost but felt they were around.

There is a place called Chingle Hall in Lancashire which dates back to before Henry V.

It is said to be haunted and has a few open days in the Summer and Winter.

I went on a very hot Summers day with some friends to have a look around.

In one rooms which faced South, I became clock cold whereas my friends still felt warm.

It was said that this was one of the rooms were a priest would hid from Henry V army.

The Hall has priest holes though out it.

If the priests were found by the army nasty things would happen to them.

An other time stayed in a pub in the Yorkshire Dale with full central heating on felt clock cold during the night and got up to see if the heating was on almost burned my hand on the radiator in the room.

When asked how I had slept in the room I replied not very well and told the manager / owner about the room. Moved me to an other room and did not have any problems. Was not charged for that room and was told that they had taken over the pub about 6 months before. The locals had told them one room had strange things happening in it and to be aware.

Thing I know which room that is!!!!!!!!!

When my late mum who had head and neck cancer was in hospital, I visited every day after work and would stayed there sometimes to the small hours of the morning.

I took my better half with me one day to see her. Valerie says that when I got out of the car I must have know something had happened because I gave out a big sye of relief.

I have done car boots and sensed when not to sell an item, other times answered the question before it was asked. Had people ask me how I knew what they were going to ask and answered it.

If I knew that I would be a mind reader!!

I feel I sometimes become in tuned with the place I am at and therefore pick up things

that others do not, why I do not know.... call it 6th sense.

Hope this make sense.

Best regards

Ian

I have seen a ghost twice. (different ones) and I am an unbeliver.

My father in law also had seen a ghost.

We live near Crewe Hall. I saw a ghost called the 'Grey Lady' in the grounds once. I was reasonably new to the area at the time so didnt know about her 'existance'. I told my oh what I had seen and he told me about her. Apparently lots of people have seen her.

My Father in law worked at Crewe Hall for a short time and saw another gost 'The Game Keeper' and had a chat to him!! He was working on gate duty and 'The Game-keeper' walked up and they had a chat. He later told someone he worked with about the chat he had had with this Game-keeper only to be told "we dont have a Game-keeper, its a ghost"

Spooky!!

My Dad passed away when I was 15 and he came to see me the night before I got engaged to my oh. He was stood at the bottom of my bed smiling clear as day to me. I realise this can be explained as a dream perhaps being in an emotional state. I cant explain the others though.

Whilst I was still living with my parents I used to smoke in my room. One night I woke up, the room was very dark but I knew someone was sitting on the end of my bed as I could feel them there. They were smoking. I thought it was my then boyfriend, now hubby, and said "hold on I'll get you the ashtray". I kept this over the other side of the room.

In the morning I woke up and remembered what had happened, looked and saw that I had put the ash tray on the cupboard at the end of the bed. I phoned D up and asked him if it was him. He said no. I told my parents what had happened and my dad got a bit spooked.

Forgot all about it until about 6 years later when after my FIL had died lots of us went to the Spirtualist Society in London. My sister went before me and when she came back to the cafe bit she was white. Apparently the medium said to her "Your nan said to say thank you to your sister for the ash tray" .

Completely freaked me out that did.

I also find some houses creepy. One house we only stayed in for a year. It just had a bad feeling.

We have a ghost in this house, he turns on the taps sometimes and the lights. Once when "Ooops, word censored!"ody else was in the house I heard my daughter's chair (on rollers) being moved across her bedroom floor. The cats also turn round and stare upstairs. My ES has named him Fred. We always wonder what he's going to do next. Its not a scary one though.

My YS when he was about 3 or 4 regularly used to see people in the garden. One was a lady with a basket and she was floating. My mum was with him and he kept asking her if she could see the lady.

He hasn't mentioned anything recently so he might not be as receptive any more.

On another recent thread I mentioned a house I went to look at, that was cold upstairs in ways that had nothing to do with temperature. I'd gone with a friend and we found ourselves stood almost on top of each other, with our backs to the wall. Needless to say, I bought somewhere else

I too spent the night at Chingle Hall to raise money for Guide Dogs, and each of our group was woken in the night by the feeling of being watched - not threatening but a bit unnerving. We were glad when breakfast time arrived :D

A place I used to stay in Cumbria had friendly presences. In the big front room you would catch the scent of flowers or tobacco - known as the flowery lady and the tobacco man. It never happened to anyone staying there for the first time (repeat visitors only) and usually only if you were on your own. They never joined a group.

This was also the place where several of us the night before midsummer one year saw hundreds of fairy lights along the hill, that danced around in a circle before processing in single file down to the river. This was private land and no one other than our small group was staying. There was at least one teetotaller (not me!), we were in individual rooms (so not group hysteria) and all saw the same thing at the same time, but did not confer until breakfast, when one brave soul said "did anyone else see anything unusual last night?"

OK, ready for my room without a view and nice long-sleeved jacket now

Ooh another one....I went to view a house a few years ago with my mum. It was a pretty delapidated old mansiony housey kind of place. The cellars were all sealed off with iron bars which seemed odd so we couldn't go down there but we looked around...it was pretty grotty all in all, but when we went to the attic rooms, it was very odd....there was a long corridor with doors off it, with lots of small rooms with doors with small windows in them and you couldn't really see in them, they were very dark....at the end of the corridor was a rooflight....I walked to the end and suddenly had the most overwhelming feeling of something quite awful and evil and dark and nasty....I can't explain it, but I just had to get out....I moved pretty quickly (for me!) down this corridor, past mum, muttering "I've got to get out of here" and could hear my mum running behind shouting "wait for me!!" - in hindsight it was quite funny, but unnerving at the time!

I told work colleagues about it the next day, and they said "You went to look a the old asylum? They used to lock them up in the attics"......NOW they tell me!!:wink:

Needless to say, we didn't buy it!!
