Hubby coming home! The Omletina Household is to be reunited!

Recommended Posts

Well, it's all been happening in the Omletina household the past few weeks.....first we lost our savings last week because they were with Kaupthing Isle of Man which isn't covered by the UK scheme and they haven't been bought out. The last time anybody claimed under the Isle of Man Scheme, it took ten years for them to pay out!!

THEN hubby was told that his contract with Volvo was going to end at the end of the year, then the end of November and then on Thursday they told him it was the 7th November!! Volvo are owned by Ford and as Ford are in difficulties, they've told Volvo to get rid of all consultants, so he's out of a job. All a bit of a shock really. :(

He's been out there for 4.5 years now and we've been living this weird existence where he is home once a month for a long weekend, and I used to sometimes go out there (until I got my chickens, not had a weekend away since!) - he has a tiny apartment in Gothenburg so it's been no fun for him, he's been working 7 days a week as there's nothing else to do - I think he's secretly quite pleased he's coming home, but also very worried as there's no work in what he does over here, and I don't work due to arthritis....

Anyway, we have to look on the bright side and think that he's coming home to me, the boys and the girls....(cats and chickens, no children!!)

I just spent the day booking flights and ferries. I shall fly out the day before, have a day's shopping in Gothenburg, then we will sail across to Denmark, drive through Denmark and then get the ferry from Esbjerg to Harwich and home from there. Mum and dad are coming down to cat/chicken sit! Landy's clutch is playing up so we just have to hope he holds out until we are back in blighty!

It'll be weird having him back full time and I think it'll get some getting used to on both our parts! The cats will be annoyed as he sleeps on their side of the bed :wink:

If your parents need any support with the chicken sitting, feel free to shout me :D

Awww that's so sweet, thank you! My mum doesn't understand the chicken thing, dad pretends not to like them but when we are sat out on the patio having coffee, I note that he feeds them his biscuits (they love him now!!).....nearer the time, I'll take your 'phone number if that's ok, just in case there's a problem! I'm only away for three days so I'm hoping not too much can go wrong!!

:D Enjoy the re-union - its pants when OH's have to work away, and soooo many have to now. I make the most of "us" time - and stuff everyone else. I always think there is a stronger bond though, and more appreciation for what the other does.

Fingers crossed that he manages to get work again

Oh wow, Diane, what a lot of ups and downs. It's good news that Mr Omletina will be home now and I hope he's able to find a good job in the UK so he's not away all the time any longer. Goodness, you'll have so many jobs for him to do round the house, won't you  . Sorry to hear about the money loss :( . I hope things get sorted out.

You've got my number if your Mum has any problems and Snowy's not around as I'm only a few minutes away.

...I'm a bit emotional at the moment (ok, I'm always emotional, but I'm particularly emotional at the moment) and all these offers of 'phone support for mum and dad whilst I'm away is making me all choked up.

I just told mum on the 'phone about it and she was really touched, and also so pleased that I've made such lovely friends through my chickens....even though I've only met a few of you in person, I feel that I know you all! Better stop here as I'm getting choked up again....think I may head for a glass of wine!

Does this mean that you won't be coming to Harrogate? :D

Hee hee....he's not home until after Harrogate so what he doesn't see.....hee hee hee...my American friend who loves chickens is keen to come to Harrogate now so we may head northwards....thinking of that, do you fancy a trip to Harrogate, Snowy?

Oooh, a big if over that one - I'd love too but OH is supposed to start a new shift system that day. IF by any chance it doesn't go ahead as planned, then I am free for the day!!! I'll keep you posted! 8)

Good that you've got your husband coming home (well actually mine annoyed me last night talking all through a programme - I said to him "when you worked away it was great, I could watch a programme with no interruptions" not sure he appreciated it).

I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed for him in the job stakes.

Sounds like you'll have a lovely time on his trip back home. :D
