Guest
That's amazing Cinnamon! Were they related? I am a Surrey girl through and through. My parents are both Surrey people (albeit South London!) and 3 grandparents were Surrey people with the 4th being from Wembley. I have never lived anywhere else apart from 3 years in Bristol and a year in Cambridge during university years. I am tracing Russell, Weaver, Sheppard, Worsell, Canning, Nye and Bell. Ain't Nobody Here
My mum's parents were called May and Fred. My dad's parents were also called May and Fred. Presumably pretty common names back then, but still quite a coincidence .
Chicken Licken
Born in Cambridge, lived in Cambs for most of my life with brief interludes in Oxford, Durham and Irvine. I have short vowels for northern places - when I trained as a teacher I recall a girl not understanding with my long A in graph paper!! Mum comes from Essex although both her parents were from the North East and grannie's origins are Norwegian. I don't really know where my dad's family originated Kent commuter belt for his childhood and before then he can trace some welsh and scottish roots. For me this is home - teaching just outside cambridge this is the first place I have ever worked where people sound a lot like me!! In Bedford they sounded much more London and in the North East - well they sounded Geordie to me!!
jlo
Hope you don't think that I am hijacking the thread but I do have a related story which also has a coincidence in it. On a previous post I explained that I was from Sheffield and OH from Rochdale but brought up in Bath. We met at Canterbury at Uni. Our grandfathers knew each other and used to drink in the same pub in Lincolnshire on a Saturday before my grandfather had to go and make sure that the local hunt didn't destroy his boss's farm! I think that this is one of the biggest coincidences that I have ever come across.

Valkyrie
Wow, some interesting heritage on here! Some of my ancestry is Suffolk, Kent, Berkshire, Middlesex, London (grandad was a true cockney, although he spoke "posh" and nothing like the Mary Poppins version - he could if he wanted to make us laugh though!), Irish, French and perhaps the Isle of Wight. I was born in Surrey lived there for half my life, although a lot of time was spent in the New Forest with my grandparents during the term holidays. I consider myself a Wessex girl! The only thing irritating is that I don't have an accent and would dearly love to have a country burr when I speak.
AnnieP
Amazing thread! I was born in South East London, where generations from both sides of my family go back for at least 200 years. I moved to Cambridgeshire when I was 2, so my parents and (much) older brothers all still retain their "sarf east lundun" accents. I don't. Went back to South East London to do teacher training (yes, right back to where I was born ) for 4 years, then back to Cambs. 4 years later, relocated with OH's job to Wiltshire, which has truly become home. I love it here, and although I am proud of my London heritage, I say I am from Cambs, but belong to Wiltshire! Also wonder if any of us are related? Names from my family are all very strange: Wills, Henn (yes, really ), Slaughter, Savory and Sartain. Regarding it being a small world: My forum "sister" Emma, (TheHerd123) and I discovered that the lady who did her nails in Birmingham was my husband's cousin's wife!
