The Good Life - an update! - photo heavy...

Recommended Posts

I love this thread :)

Its a shame about the pigs + lambs later, but I suppose thats what 'the good life' is all about.

Have you ever thought about breeding the pigs? (or should Lewis run and duck for cover?)

You must be doing something right if you have too much veg, the trees sound like a lot of hard work 8).

Have fun in Anglesey, we went there a few years ago and really enjoyed it.

Go for the ram

I've left the decision about the ram to Carl - his work position changes at the end of next week and we may have a lot of decisions to make. The problem with breeding lambs is that you make a decision in November and the consequences arrive in April :D - we don't know what we're going to be doing in April yet :?

Pigs are different as we can make the decision to have weaners next March and collect them in April - we don't wan tto go down the route of breeding pigs as you have to overwinter the sows.....and it isn't fair to keep just one pig .........a lot of hard work.

We're also thinking about something else......... Maybe more news next week! :D

:shameonu: You can't leave us like that

Rheas sound like a good idea, I always see hatching eggs for sale and would love to have a go, but obviously couldn't keep them  I remember one story of a lady that hatched a couple that got really tame.

My prediction is a goat or alpaca

I can be on hand to help with D&Ding the dinners if needs be, just let me know and I'll tell you when I'm free. Rosie still wants to do her first despatch and the cone will be easier for her.

... and me

Unless you're planning on boning them - I'd best stay well away

:D:D:D

The little ram lambs have gone now :( - the Herdwick mum has lost both her boys......she's happily munching grass.......the Shetland mum - who is our favourite, friendliest sheep - is lost and calling for her only boy :(

We were early at the abattoir but were still in a queue, it's a very tiny abattoir and only just off a main road in a tiny village, the stock trailers soon pile up and you have to move the trailer very accurately and quickly - a bit nerve-racking for Carl  I had to complete the forms and usually get back in the car after Carl has turned the trailer round but this morning they were letting the next trailer in at the same time to clear the backlog..........I had to catch Carl up out on the road........a lovely walk past all the 'proper' farmers........in my Pink Crocs :D8) - it makes them all smile :D

Moving house!!

Time for the young ducks to move to the outside run. They were off heat and the door to the outbuilding had been open all day for some time. We put the ducks into their de-luxe carrier.............

and took them to their temporary new home - a sectioned off part of the duck run....

They came out of the dustbin a bit mucky - and wouldn't go in their new pond for ages

They eventually went into the little pond but we can't get them to stay in the coop - we get them in but they come back out......the door is being used as a ramp for the pond so we'll have to find another ramp. At least the weather is quite mild at the moment and they are fine in the morning.

We appear to have more squeakers than quackers........more drakes than ducks.......the only one we are certain of at the moment is the yellow/white one with a black spot on her head....she's a duck. I think we may have 2 new layers and 4 duck dinners!
