Big Green Poo Machine is emptied now and I think we're going to have to dig a new soakaway and see if that helps.......time to read up on Building Regs. to check on requirements. They are such tiny little chicks and come pre-programmed with a death wish. Everything spooks them and they scream their heads off when handled. However they are such beautiful birds and real characters now. Bert is a gentle giant and a complete coward. One evening he fell backwards trying to go to bed, landed on his back and couldn't get up again. I thought he was dead when I found him, but fortunately he was just stuck! Then there's Harriet Jump Jet who does vertical take offs and she tightrope walks the full length of the fence. Her daughter has been christened Joan Jet as she's inherited her mother's agility. Lesley Posted March 10, 2010 Author Share Posted March 10, 2010 No emus - just hatching eggs in the incubator, they will be breeding stock for table birds and some more layers. They're due to hatch on Sunday. Today we managed to herd the sheep into the lambing barn and trimmed their feet. They also had their Heptavac vaccinations. They also need their Bluetongue booster but as the vaccine is still not fully tested with other vaccines you have to have at least two weeks between vaccinations..........so in two weeks time, we'll have to do it all again My son has pulled a muscle in his back and Carl was head-butted in the thigh by the big Kerry Hill lamb (that was......she's huge now!) - I have to stand behind a hurdle as I can't afford to sustain any further damage to my knee........so I'm the only one not hobbling We let the cows and sheep into the next paddock but they will still have access to the big barn as it is so cold at night. They rarely go in unless it is raining as well. The cows went mad for about an hour - cabin fever! - they charged up and down the paddock, scattering sheep everywhere......we were just hoping that the cows didn't suddenly decide to vault the fences Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I sent son home with a TENS machine and a strip of Ibuprofen. His thumbs are a lot better but he's got to remove a boiler for someone tomorrow - he could have done without the pulled muscle........Shetlands are so difficult to keep on their bottoms, there are times when we wish for some big, woolly commercial sheep which stay put Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
