chickencam Posted July 13, 2009 Share Posted July 13, 2009 Dippy our late White Star had a clipped beak and it did eventually grow back but it took about a year, and we couldn't fit her with a bumper bit during this time. You shouldn't need a beak bit if she has been debeaked as it has the same effect. Although I see what you mean during the period where its between short and 'normal' length . She says they will grow back as soon as they have soil to peck about in rather than the soft bedding they are used to. Another 4 girls today! - and lots of new names to find now! They were both pretty sickly and died young, unlike our glorious Maggie, who has been going strong since January 2006 Long may she reign as undisputed queen of our flock. Great news about the chickens-I'm glad you've got some more POL hens-Makes me want some more! We have the two bluebelles now and they lay quite well considering they're over 4 years old now and Molly is laying quite well, but Spice has got confused and has started her moult early. I love your rainbow of eglus, if I was nearer I'd come and clean them out for you-am in a bit of a need of something to do at the minute, but I'm not really allowed anymore chickens, although we still have the old coop as a spare, which has room for three chickens/4 bantams! Hi Lesley, Have just found this thread and intend to read all 35 pages (unemployed!). As fellow Omleteers have previously said, it's the nearest I will get to a smallholding for some while. Steve says "the writing is on the wall" with rgds his position at work & I have been unemployed for approx. one month now. He's been watching me with the horse and states/knows I am "in my element" etc... I know you have your work cut out, I have been looking after 5 horses (2 cats, a bunny and their hens) this past week - one more week to go. As well as our girls, dog, bird, OH. It's exhausting - but I love it! Give me the "outdoor life" any day over a "day at the office".
