Don't Want to Ask But.....

Recommended Posts

Four of the five people who have eaten my eggs have been ill afterwards with an upset tummy. All on separate occassions eating eggs laid by two of my girls. I have witnessed the cooking in three cases and it was thorough.

I am the only one who has made the link as the four people are unconnected.

I am sincerely hoping its coincidence however does anyone know if there is anything my chickens may have that could cause a problem?

I clean the Eglu each week and poo pick the tray daily, I don't leave out stale food and I use Poultry Sheild and Stalosan F.

The girls are on Flubenvet from today.

I am at a loss on what conclusion to draw from this and have stopped giving eggs away :(

I'm the only one who hasn't been ill.

I wouldn't worry unduly if you are OK then I suspect your eggs are OK. And you saw them well cooked so should be safe.

Interesting though the gov website says salmonella can be on egg shells etc.. but I think thats a bit over the top myself. Doesn't salmonella mostly affect those in vulnerable groups (ie. babies, pregnant, sick, elderly) rather than the fit and healthy or have I got that wrong???

Don't worry. I remember when I first got my hens, within 1 month hubbie spent 3 days shaking like a leaf, freezing and sweating and I was convinced he'd caught avian flu and that it was all my fault. Turned out just to be normal flu and nothing more, but I did get it all out of proportion at one point and blamed myself for getting chickens....

We have all had this bug, my son started it off and then it was me followed be OH and youngest daugther in very quick sucession, we've been ill all week, very fed up now I'll be glad when we are all better, hubby has been off work, he's self employed and I can't remember the last time he was off sick. But my other daugther hasn't caught it, strange.

I wouldn't worry about your eggs, must be coincidence.
