Christmas e-cards

Recommended Posts

This is the weekend when I start to think about cards.....and perhaps get some sorted out for across the pond.......

A few years ago we decided as a family that we wouldn't send cards to family members we see all year round and especially if we see them on the day. Then I extended that to not sending cards to acquaintances - I send e-cards instead. I use the charity ones, there are so many to choose from.

I just thought this might appeal to a few people on here?

I still make some special cards for a few family members, buy some for a few people and I make cards with my grandchildren for them to send to schoolfriends......... but I email all the others. I've also made friends with quite a few people on this forum through get-togethers and I send them e-cards as well.

I tend to send them fairly early so that if I offend people, then they don't have to waste a card and postage on me  - I don't think I've offended anyone yet....... :? and if I have, they're not saying  I make one donation to a charity of my choice.....and no stamps to buy!

Does anyone else send them? - please tell me I'm not alone!!!!!!!!

I've not heard of charity e-cards

I send charity cards to everybody except work colleagues, who get an e-mail and I make a donation to our local hospice as do most of my colleagues.

I like the idea of the charity e-card though, how does it work? Do you have to buy each card seperately for each e-mail address.

I think it's a great idea.

The idea of exchanging Christmas cards has always seemed odd to me when most of them will end up in the bin adding to the landfill sites.

I think some people think that it is a symbol of how many friends they have if their house is are full of cards.

Very true! - I like my house to be full of greenery instead!

I'm obviously in the minority here  I don't like e.cards I find them very impersonal somehow. I send very few cards these days, all to old friends who live in far flung places on the planet whom I never see, I always write a little update on my boring life just to keep in touch, I don't send cards to people I see regularly. This year I have bought BHWT cards :) I recycle any cards I receive and lots of stores have bins for old cards after Christmas.

Actually, I'm with Tessa - I like traditional cards, and they are part of the Christmas decorations for me. I only ever buy charity cards, working in London there are lots of Card Aid shops at this time of year in local churches so plenty to choose from, and I always recycle the cards that I receive, either directly (compost, writing shopping-lists) or via one of the card-recycling boxes that Boots usually have.

I don't give cards to people I see every day, but there are quite a few friends who although I haven't seen them for years, I still want to keep in touch with, and a card is a good way to do this and like Tessa, I include a letter (not a 'Round Robin, I hasten to add!).

My company always sends an e-card though, and I think this makes perfect sense. I do send e-cards for birthdays, and although the charity ones are good, I subscribe to the Jacquie Lawson website. Her cards are ace!

Thanks for the reminder Lesley :D . In previous years I've tended to send a lot of traditional cards, but this year has to be different and I'm planning on sending e cards to a lot of friends and not so close family. I guess it must be about time for me to start looking into it though...thus far I've been trying to ignore the rapid approach of Christmas but I guess now's as good a time as any to start getting my act together.

A very timely reminder Lesley :D:D:D
