I've got a Montezuma's Chocolate Calendar :D :D Strictly not for children

DS and DD have a reusable advent calendar that I bought from 'East of India' and have filled it with an assortment of chocolate santas and chocolate coins :D :D

and we also have a Matthew Rice Advent Calender.......because it goes so well with all the EB pottery in my Kitchen :D :D

hmmm I have a perpetual one somewhere in the loft with the decorations that I'm not getting out (BAH HUMBUG - we are away for 2 weeks!).

Only other one I've seen in the house seems to be for the cat....

:lol: saw some for cats (and dogs and small animals) in the pet shop the other day. I resisted though as I have 3 cats and not enough wall space for anymore advent calenders

shame there isn't one for Chickens :( Perhaps someone will design one soon :D :D

Would be a good idea, but you'd have to make sure they couldn't get to the other days or they'd scoff the lot!

We have a nativity scene with 24 windows each of which has a picture and a Bible verse in it.

We have one calendar which the children take it in turns to open - just as I did as a child. 24 is such a great number as it suits 1,2, 3 or 4 children equally.

We also have an Advent candle with 24 numbers on it which we burn each day at tea-time.

And on Sundays we have the traditional Advent candles - lighting one red candle on the first Sunday (today), two on the second etc. The fifth, which is gold, is lit on Christmas Day.

I love Advent! We're going to the Advent Carol Service tonight and I shall then feel that preparations for Christmas are started! Exciting! :D

We have two. One is little boxes filled with Playmobile bits and bobs and you build up a wintry Christmas scene. The other is sent every year by the kids great grandmother and is a traditional picture behind a door one. They long for a chocolate one and will probably get it when they have grown out of the Playmobile one.

YS (10) has a WWE chocolate one, ES (17) has Star Wars chocolate, DD (21) has Disney princesses chocolate calendar. OH is very annoyed yet again not to have one himself!

I have a large calendar with pockets in for treats - whenever I've put this up before they normally eat the treats early - so may not bother this year.

We've got 2 Playmobil ones (on their fourth and second outings!) and a Ben 10 chocolate one for each boy too. I bought them a Lego one last year but ended up with loads of mini-figs and random bits of Lego City equipment (a luggage trolley, a dustbin etc) so we've not gone for that again this year!

My two boys have one each this year. YS has the Lego City one like Jo had last year. We didn't have one last year but previously it had Christmas models and they come out every year now. ES has a Star Wars Clone Wars one where you make models but Airfix-type ones. Hubby and I don't have one, he's hardly here :( and I get lots of fun helping the boys put theirs together. :)

I have bought a FairTrade chocolate one this year for myself  but I have to say it doesn't feel right. I'd have liked a 'proper' picture one, but couldn't find one anywhere.

When I was little I had a lovely one with Bible pictures in. I don't remember chocolate ones being around then (in the 60s) but my mum would not have bought one anyway.

I do know the real meaning of Advent, and while I know the chocolate ones are just a bit of fun, and most people just see it as a countdown to Christmas - I feel slightly uncomfortable with it. I will still open mine and eat the chocs, though!

Turns out we have 3!

Mum found a picture one which Granny gave James last year but we didn't use as there were already 2 on the go.

Then he came back from Daddy's yesterday with a chocolate one

And then of course there is the cats one - It's by the food in Mums kitchen and James has opened the first door for them this morning but not taken the treats out yet - there are 5 or 6 treats behind the window so enough for all the cats.

Now they KNOW something is up - it's merry Christmas cats - you are spending it home alone! (we have a wonderful woman who does pet sitting http://www.cozipets.co.uk/ - If you go to the gallery you'll see the cats and the "girls" - we were her first chicken customers!)

I so know how you feel Olly. My FIL bought chocolate calendars for my girls when they were little - just once! They had exactly the effect I thought they would. The excitement was all about getting today's chocolate and not about getting closer and closer to Christmas. Advent is about waiting and preparing, not getting. So never any chocolate calendars here and never one each either. They take it in turns and it is our calendar! It always feels such a long time to wait and then before we know what has happened we are half way through and Christmas is really close. :D

Well done on getting a Fair Trade chocolate calendar though. :D
