Cate in NZ
It's a big day for me today, and I'm getting all restless and agitated, so thought I'd log on here for a quick, long overdue catch up, and hope that a few of you will send us some positive vibes NB looks a bit alarming though, all those red arrows....I haven't got a hope of catching up with all that's been going on with you all, so apologies if I've missed any important threads. Keep warm, keep well and happy christmas shopping to you all . Today I'm off to try and buy a house at auction, and I'm terrified . It's a great house, approx an acre of land with it and I've sourced some sheep, I have a cow on offer if I want it (but I'm not sure about that.....cow's are a bit big ) and I'm definitely planning on chickens, 2 flocks ideally, layers & growers. It's all pretty ideal really, enough land for me to get started with the things I want to do, but not too much, it's in a great part of town, convenient for us all. The house is new, modern, 4 beds & 3 bathrooms and big enough for our needs plus great guest accomodation for when family & friends come to stay. But it's an auction...so goodness only knows how things will work out, we have a definite limit, can't go above that, so it's fingers & toes tightly crossed time, and if it's meant to be it will happen . Wish me luck though please.....only a couple of hours to go now.

Christian
All the best Cate! I hope it works out well for you. Best advice, even though you are probably already there, is Don't move unless you are bidding
Cate in NZ
Thank you all so much for your good wishes. It's great to have friends like you all....even if you are a very long way away right now. (In answer to a comment elsewhere I'm currently 13 hours ahead of you, it does change with the clock changes for GMT/BST and daylight saving over here, but right now we're at the maximum possible time difference as we've got the longer summer days , and you're all staring the short days of winter in the face .) Anyway, I'm now Saturday afternoon, 17:45 pm, and I'm back from the auction and the post auction drink at the top of the rotorua gondola....beautiful views . But I'm sort of stressed to the max. We were the winning bidders, we bid $480,000 which was the highest bid tendered. But the financier handling the sale wants more...his reserve was $500,00. But the builder who built it has gone bust and the survey showed that some of the finishes were a bit rushed and done cheaply although the overall structure etc is great. So we survived the auction (busy though...heck, I took one look at the crowds and nearly turned tail ), but now we're in a protracted battle of wills with the vendor......who is going to crack first . We've increased our offer slightly since but said that we're now at our absolute final offer and we can't increase it. We can't really, not comfortably, so we're waiting now. Off to a work night out tonight as hubby's work are having their Christmas do. So I'll have a calming drink or 2 and try to relax, and we've been promised a response by 6pm Sunday at the latest.....that's only 24 hours of nail biting to go then This is the house we want Fingers crossed still then...not sure I can cope with this suspense
Karen & co.
Cate that is a lovely house It sounds like you are in a strong position to get it if the builder has gone bust I'll keep my fingers and everything else crossed for you, and it will give you time to think of a name for your cow Karen x
Redwing
It looks like a wonderful spot, a lovely place to live. Good luck - Hopefully they wont want to risk re-auctioning it and they are very close to their asking price so they should grab it with both hands! Fingers crossed
Paola
Keeping everything crossed for you Cate I am soooo excited for you When I posted yesterday I thought that you were going to start keeping butterflies by the title Its only today that I have realized What's wrong with me? Egluntyne
Wow. The collective Omlet thought vibes should pull it off for you. It looks amazing! Will you be doing B&B? I'm composing a list of potential Omlet holiday destinations. Very best of luck. How much land is there? A cube would look very nice nestling on that hillside. bronze
Wow its lovely Will keep everything crossed for you. I hope the vendor realises that you were the highest bidders so hes not actually going to have someone whos willing to pay more for it. I cant believe what you can get for your money out there
