Christmas blues :-(

Recommended Posts

I had to go back and re-read this thread again before I had any idea what you're all talking about :lol: . But it's made me chuckle anyway  .

I'm ashamed to admit I'm sitting here writing those 11 envelopes I set aside for OH to do  . Well, it just wasn't worth explaining why I wanted him to do them  . I'm writing one, nipping on the forum, writing another, back to forum. That's the way to do it :D .

On the plus side, YS is doing a huge pile of dishes as we speak  .

((((HUGS))) ANH

I know exactly how you feel, my meltdown came on Friday evening, I have spent the last 3 weeks listing things, answering emails and packing ebay items, to make money to pay for the childrens presents. We have a big splurge every year, saving stuff all year then getting the children to sort out their unwanted items, to make room and money for more stuff.

I was exhausted and looking forward to a glass or 2 of something warming and an evening by the fire, when OH decided it was time to tidy the house from top to toe in readiness for the Christmas tree and other decorations. It wasn't that bad considering it has been a packing station for a fortnight. All things however had to be completely reorganised until 2am. We had a slanging match at about 11pm then I burst into tears when OH blew one of those party noisy curly things at me to try and make me smile but it just made me jump and cry more

We then spent all of Saturday putting up tree and decorations and the house now looks lovely and he did take us all out for lunch yesterday and make Hairy Biker cheese straws for tea, so he's not so bad

Him Indoors does all the Christmas day cooking....only fair really , as I do everything else. :D

He does write about 6 "important" Christmas cards. :? My writing isn't "good enough"" for these, evidently.

Re the offer of a brother ftgh.. No ta. I've got 4 already.

If we are at home as we were last year, DH cooks (usually while I finish wrapping the last presents!!! )

He only writes the cards to his ex-wife (of nearly 20 years!! :x )'s family - I can't stomach any good wishes to them, and try to eradicate them from the list every year. The justification that they have been ex-family now for longer than they were family doesn't cut the mustard I'm afraid, and only one ever sends to us anyway!! Oh and he also does the company ones which have to come just from him as MD (bank managers etc), although why they are on our private listing is anyone's guess!

And the reason I get to write the cards - my writing is legible and I write better notes than he does :eh: .

Can I add my sister to the FTGH list please? She comes complete with a husband and son, so 3 for the (free) price of 1 as it were (BIL is lovely though!!)

Christmas is going to be stressful this year, worse than usual as she & family have moved in with M&D as they are extending M&D's house so it's big enough for 4 generations of the family to live in together... This is long & arduous, so I won't bore you with it! But we are still expected to go & stay - er, where?! - for Christmas even though my sis spends her entire time complaining about my dogs! Chooks can't come either, so we'll be sleeping at home this year and visiting  Mum is less than impressed!!!

My sympathies to everyone who is suffering "family tensions", why do we get so worked up over a couple of days :eh::roll:

Sha x

P.S. The Aussie & Irish cards went off this morning, and the European & GB ones are sitting on the table with the letters part written - I really can't get my head round a "round robin" letter, every note has to be slightly different, just in case someone reads someone else's card  Am looking forward to the "with love & best wishes for 2009" ones to get to the top of the pile!

I hope you're starting to feel a bit better about xmas ANH. I am so chilled out about it this year but we won't be ready. I'm past caring  . As for the washing up I strop every now and then but it doesn't make a difference. I wouldn't mind but we have a dishwasher. I think I'm the only one that knows where it is!

Got the parcels posted, the letters in the postbox and spoke to my mum (who behaved as though we'd been speaking as usual for the past 3 weeks  ).

At least I wasn't one of the people queuing for 15 mins in the Post Office to find they'd sold out of second class stamps (as had 3 local shops too) .

Christmas cheer is back on tap chez ANH  .

So glad your feeling better  ,

my OH and I have a little song that we sing to each other that can help people through times like these, unfortunately it's not suitable for a forum like this  , but if I ever meet you at an omlet village do I will teach you it. It can really raise your spirits

Glad you are feeling so much better! It's horrible when everything seems to get on top of you and no one is helping. Every year I write the pressie lists, buy the pressies, make the cards (could buy them, but I like to make them) wrap the pressies, *looks to see if any kids are about . . . no, good* play Santa and pop the stockings on the ends of beds without making a sound. If we are home, I am up at crack of dawn putting the turkey in the oven, peeling, chopping etc etc. But if I didn't do it, it wouldn't get done. Or maybe it would, but I am not taking that chance!

This year we are my parents house for Christmas day, which is going to be fun. When my mum and I talked about it, I thought it was just going to be me, hubby and our 3 kids, my mum and dad and my brother (who lives in London, but tries to come down for Christmas). But, it turns out its also going to be my two sisters and their hubby's and their two kiddies. Oh and one of my sisters MIL as well. So That is 17 of us, in a teeny tiny house for Christmas day  Don't get me wrong, it will be lovely to see them all, but it's not quite how I pictured Christmas day to be.

I think one or two stiff drinks will get me and OH through the day

ooh, I'm intrigued too mostin - can you whisper it?

My 'Christmas' was this weekend, as I had a Christmas concert with my choir, and various family members coming to lunch on Sunday - all lovely but a bit stressful, especially when you live on your own and aren't used to a houseful.

Meltdown point came on Sunday morning after a fitful night spent on the sofa cushions (I'd had to kick them all upstairs to bed at 1.00 am, after a VERY long day including a 2.5 hour rehearsal and a concert, by pointing out that I couldn't go to bed till they did!). My sister had been asked to bring a pudding, instead she brought the ice-cream maker and all the ingredients, and proceeded to start making it at 11.30 while I was cooking roast dinner to be eaten at 1.00 ... wouldn't have minded except she kept leaving me to stir the custard while she went in the other room to watch the recording of the X-Factor final. Yes, that was a recording, she could have watched it any time, but she wanted to watch it then.

I decided that it was time to clean the chickens out! I had a happy half-hour out in the garden, pottering about with a bucket and my gloves, strangely "Ooops, word censored!"ody wanted to help me with this task. If I didn't have chickens, I think I'd have to invent them for times like this.

Hope you are getting over the Christmas blues, it all gets too much sometimes doesn't it but it's supposed to be FUN. I've taken a day off on Wednesday and I'm going to go for a long long walk in the forest and forget all about presents, wrapping, cards, tinsel and mince pies.

I'm intrigued  . Fancy coming to the Scottish Omlet Gathering in Edinburgh in the New Year  ? (Must start a thread about it!)

OOh I bet those meets are fun, and our song would sound really good with your accent I'm sure :lol:

I'd love to Olly, but I try to be a good girl on here, even though it's against my nature  .

ANH only 15 minutes in the post office - lucky girl - I spent 40 minutes there yesterday from 5pm - 5.40, it is usually a bit better after 5, there were still loads of people waiting when I left and they are supposed to close at 5.30 and the last post had gone

I have got to go again today, I keep putting it off
