xChicken04x
Aww, poor you, take some paracetamol to lower your temperature. Have something to eat e.g some warm toast or a crumpet (and some choccie), have a hot honey and lemon drink. Make your self a hot water bottle, keep warm and have plenty of sleep. Have a couple of lazy days if you can, plenty of rest will sort you out.

Tiggy
I read an article last week that seems to show that the old remedies are still the best , hot drinks honey & lemon, echinea (sorry not sure its spelt like that) - take things easy
abwsco
I usually do a multi-pronged attack. I take soluble vitamin c, take paracetamol, gargle with a solution of tea tree oil in water(4 or 5 drops) loads of times throughout the day, take echinacea(sp?) and drink plenty, usually pints and pints of hot vimto in my case. Oh, and if I feel tired and I'm not at work I will go for a sleep. Hope you can stop it getting worse Chelsea.
Cinnamon
I swear by Night Nurse. It makes me sleep & I reckon if you get a good nights sleep then half the battle is won. Avoid chocolate as it promotes mucus in your throat & nose, which you do not want! Good luck with it
chelsea
I usually do a multi-pronged attack. . That's what I was thinking Anne! Thanks for all your suggestions - will fight with gusto tomorrow (it wont win ) x
bluekarin
After overdosing (not seriously, just made myself feel even icker) on Lemsip when I was a lass, I now have as much hot honey and lemon juice, with a dash of whiskey in the evenings, as I like and take Paracetamol and Ibuprofen as and when I need it (obviously not mixing the pills and the booze). Night Nurse is amazing stuff. Last time I was ill I had a really horrible tickly cough, especially at night, and it really helped stop the tickle and get to sleep as I hadn't had a full nights sleep for 3 nights. quickcluck
Freaky! jlo
OH and I have just had a conversation about whether we need to take 2 night nurse or just the one. Two make me sleep like a comatose person but, if I need to be up in the morning, I feel as though I have been hit over the head with a soft hammer. I am thinking just the one - to stop the nose from running and let me sleep without coughing too much. No idea about the zinc and stuff - sorry! quickcluck
i think it might be too late to take the 2 or you wont get up in the morning for sure! Hope you are feeling better, and the hammer goes away !
fowlbird
Oh and my dads making me feel really guilty 'cos he keeps saying things like "do you think youre gonna be coughing tonight or can we actually get some sleep?" .. "take it Im gonna let the hens out in the morning while you stay in bed with your lurgy" and what's he like with Man Flu?

Chook n Boo Mum
Poor you Freedie, DD is in bed again - has been for the last 3 days on & off, today her temp is between 101 & 102, so lower then yesterday when it was 102+. And I am making far too frequent visits to the bathroom if you catch my drift . I hate being ill, especially when one of the children is too, I don't feel capable of helping them as much as I should. DS & DH are so far *finds a wooden cabinet to sprawls across, to touch as much as possible!!*, fine . DH is at work & DS has gone to a craft day with one of DD's friends. Thankfully her mum is sufficiently recovered to be able to drive them there!! Sha x
ClaireG
I've got my son off school again, he was off at the beginning of last week. We thought he was over the lurg but its come back and hit even harder. The school said nearly half the pupils and quite a few of the staff are off with either a cough, chest thing ( what my son has) , tonsillites or d&v. Means my son will miss his christmas play and party . Im giving him cough mixture, childrens ibuprofen, vitamin C and lots of rest and warm drinks. Poor lad is finding it hard to eat as his throats so sore. Trying to make a Drs appointment along with half the county!
fowlbird
I've been drinking lots of health giving Coke - so far it hasn't worked although... I don't seem to be as poorly as you lot
fowlbird
I'm now officially as poorly as you lot tomorrow we're off to finish all the xmas shopping in one big splurge and I'm really not in the mood which is why I'm sitting here drinking a big mug of Benylin Colds & Flu... it's not nice, got a definite medicinal taste and it's far too sweet but needs must etc
Rhapsody
I would say if you have to carry on with work/childcare/husband with manflu care then take a Lemsip or similar remedy, but your symptoms willl last longer that way; if you can hit the sofa then just plenty of fluids and sympathy, and keep as warm as you can bear, cold viruses thrive in cool conditions- which is why our bodies heat up to boil the little blighters away! Anti-B's should only be taken for a proven infection, not a viral inflammation
Seagazer
I've had this lurgy for a few weeks now but I think (I hope) it is finally on the wane. I had tonsillitis since weekend but all starting to go. Just the thought of it going makes me happy
chelsea
I've taken a benylin day (have you seen the advert?) I've given in and stayed home from work today, my throat is so sore my tongue is swollen and I cant breathe through my nose either - so not a pretty sight. Missing the works party & raffle & buffet today which is a shame
chickencam
Hope that you feel better soon. Paracetamol and lots of hot drinks and loads of sleep. At least work know that you are really ill if you are missing a party
ali-s
I started with a Christmas cold yesterday. Every year I get a cold a week before Christmas, I can't remember the last time I had a Christmas dinner and could actually taste or enjoy it I am taking a cold/flu capsule which seems to be relieving my symptems. I have also recently started to use proper handkerchiefs. Paper tissues including the balsam type made my nose sore and my lips chapped even if I didn't have a cold. So far today I have got through 12 hankies and about the same amount yesterday afternoon when my cold arrived, my nose and lips are still feeling great My work Christmas meal is on Friday night and If I am feeling like I am at the moment I know I will not be going.
