I've got gout in my big toe!

Recommended Posts

Please don't laugh, it really is painful and I am limping around feeling very sorry for myself. Does anyone know of any nice gentle herbal remedies that I can take. I am getting lots of sympathy and cups of tea but I just want to get better in time for Christmas. I am taking Brufen but don't like taking medicine on a regular basis. This is my second attack in a month.

The offers of the construction of a bath chair from my OH were received with good humour though :)

lots and lots of water. if you drink 3ltrs per day (not all at once!) when it begins it flushes the crystals though and helps to prevent it getting worse!

As for now, still try the water, and rest is the best thing. As it's your second bout in a month have you visited your GP for some allopurinol?

Hope you feel better soon.....

Ditto the feeling better & my DH takes this daily for his gout.

There are load of things which you should and shouldn't take/drink/eat when you suffer with gout, I googled it when DH was first put on medication, we just tend to go for the "everything in moderation" route rather than cutting anything out all together.

I do remember that nettle tea was supposed to be very good, I think it neutralised the uric acid which is the crystals which congregate in your toe.

Good luck & hope it clears soon,

Thanks for all the advice and kind words, got an appointment to see the GP tomorrow and as I was at the hospital today on another matter they did a blood test for uric acid, results available tomorrow so hopefully by Christmas I will be well and truly recovered.

I have spent the afternoon with my foot up, drinking green tea and will send out tomorrow for some cherry juice as recommended.

sorry you have gout, I've had it and know its jolly painful. I found a packet of frozen veg helped ease the pain and of course allopurinal is pretty essential for this flair up. Its certainly worth checking advice about what to avoid etc. Interstingly red wine is not thought to be the cause these days.

I have now got the pills and am getting oodles of sympathy from my OH!

Having fish and chips from the chippy tonight so I don't have to stand and cook, I could get used to this. My eldest son is home on leave from the army and is most concerned and is treating me like a queen. More cherry juice anyone, I wonder what a cherry juice martini would be like? :D
