I have had my girls just over a month and they have been laying regularly for about two weeks. Yet, every single egg I collect looks completely beautiful, the colour, the smoothness of the shell, the way it reflects the light. They even FEEL different when you hold one in your hand. When I see photos on here of others egg collections I see those in a different light too.

 

When I used to buy eggs, they were just, well, eggs, but now I know who laid them, and when and it has really opened my eyes to the beauty of eggs.

 

Does that make me weird

They are most precious.............and they are from our beloved chooks!

My neighbours and friends go mad for them!

Oh yes, I appreciate every one and love the different colours and the fact that they look so healthy( seems mad i know but they do )

 

I would never buy eggs again and have lots of people asking for them as well once they've tried a few, they all comment on the difference in taste.

They are definatly a thing of beauty to be treasured because they are from our girls. I've also noticed that as well as the yolks being a lot more orange, the whites seem a lot whiter and brighter to. People that have had eggs from me have also commented on this.

Yes ..... they feel heavier too.

 

My girls are 2 years old now and I get less "perfect" eggs and more wrinkly ones, funny shaped ones, speckly ones, k"Ooops, word censored!"bly ones. I now realise that the ones in the shops are over selected and the ones I eat happily every day get sold as "wet" eggs for ingredients in pies etc rather than general egg sale. Shame really. Bit like perfect straight carrots and apples with no blemishes........

I am still buying eggs because I am not able to get chickens yet. But I do look at eggs differently since being interested in keeping chickens. When I buy a new box of free range eggs I have to look at them and marvel over them. Usually they look fairly standard but sometimes you get a different, extra beautiful one.

 

I like looking at people's pictures of eggs too and feel disappointed if someone posts an announcement about a first egg and doesn't include a picture and how much it weighed!

 

If that makes me wierd, I am quite happy to be an egg-wierdo!

Everyone I have handed a warm egg to has gone "aaaawwww", curled their fingers round it protectively and made some sort of goey face!!!

I've started going to poultry shows since I got the girls - and I always over the egg displays beautiful colours and sizes: eggs is gorgeous, aint they?

I still say thank you to the girls every day for my eggs and I still get a thrill out of collecting the eggs and using the eggs.

They do become very precious to you. I twisted my knee and bruised all up one side of me in a fall a couple of months ago because I should have just dropped the eggs and stopped myself slipping, but I didn't . My girls have put all that effort in, it just wouldn't be right to drop one.

 

I too always say than you to them and let them know how much we appreciate all there efforts. Nothing makes me happier than a full egg skelter

Me too. Glad I'm not the only one who thanks the hens personally.

I collected a lovely warm from Opal this morning, I usually miss it because I have to leave for work, and didn't put it down til it had gone cold I find my girls eggs are far more tactile that bought eggs. I also say thank you to whoever laid it!

Like others, I always thank the hen that laid the egg and tell her what a lovely eggie it is . Joy and Dandelion are now laying identical eggs, so it's hard to know who's laid what - I just thank them both!

I look at eggs in a totally different way now I'm a chicken keeper - they're like little jewels! Well, sometimes quite hefty jewels!!

Every time I find an egg I marvel at how clever the hens are, different colours, shapes, textures and there is nothing better than finding one freshly laid and how warm it is. Beautiful.
