Mollystar
When I pulled up to the house/farm yesterday I noticed a man, woman & 12ish yr old boy at my cube & egglu , with there car parked on my drive. As I went over the guy opened the back of my cube & said "you have two eggs in here" They then asked "how much did these cost?" I replied "Who are you?" "we turned into the wrong lane by accident" he replied" "please leave you are trespacing" I replied The woman then swore at me. Then the child spat at me, missing. Why do I feel so bad when they where such awful people. I hope they read this & see how appauling they behaved. If they had knocked on the door or posted a note with a contact number, or posted on here they would of been quite welcome.
abwsco
I don't want to worry you but there are so many reports of theft on the Practical Poultry forum after unknown visitors have turned up. Have you reported them to the police. They sound horrendous (being polite) and I would have been really unnerved by it.
chelsea
What a cheek I cant believe he was fiddling with your cube! I am not sure what I would think.....whether they were genuinely interested/intrigued with the cube or whether they were casing the joint..... even so if they were genuinely interested they should have asked. Are you off the beaten track? Would they be able to see the cube from the road? I would keep your wits about you for a while, its a little unsettling. Mollystar
I was in shock & shaken by it. You can't see them from the road, I'm around half a mile from the road. We have camera's though & I noted the car & reg. I was very insulted that he touched the cube
Aggienator
If you have all that on camera I would definitely notify the police. They may have had other similar incidents reported, but without your detailed info. Cheers Aggie
Cinnamon
Did you get their car registration? Either way you should probably give the Police a ring - they were trespassing & possibly casing the place too

I would be horrified to come home and see someone doing that.
cordelia
..if youre still not happy (and who would be) have a word at the local police station... their behaviour being on your land was disgraceful....to treat you with such disrepect was absolutely terrrible... you have a note of their number plate...I'd take it with you... although they may have been genuinely lost...their behaviour thereafter was a disgrace....even if the police do nothing, you have acted positively....and the local police may step up patrols in your area... if you dont notify them, they wont be able to do anything...I'm sure this is what the have community police for....and I would use them
The Dogmother
Please call the police about this Mollystar - there have been several instances reported on other forums and the police are asking that anyone seeing anything at all suspicious (especially if they can give any useful info like you have or even CCTV footage) An altogether nasty experience and I'm not surprised that you're shaken. Is there any chance of moving the cube out of sight or nearer the house for a while? If you see them again, try to take some photos.
Mollystar
We have community police in the village, I'll call in this afternon.
Daphne
of course you're not a nasty person Mollystar. Unfortunately in this day and age we all have to take more precautions, and be more cautious than we'd like to have to do/be (sorry, very badly expressed sentence!) I'd check your insurance policies now in case anything horrible happens - but I'm sure it won't; you seem to have plenty of security. Egluntyne
Definitely notify the police., especially in the light of thefts of chickens. Sorry you have had this unpleasant experience.
bluekarin
That is awful! What is wrong with people these days?! I agree with everyone else and you should report it. They might not have just been there for the chickens or eggs, but for other things, especially if your house is off the beaten track. Groovychook
Poor you! What a horrible experience for you... I would definitely call the police... it doesn't sound like the behaviour of somebody who was just interested in chicken keeping. I can't believe the nerve of them. I would've been horrified too! Good for you for seeing them off!
cherryblossom
OMG, I would be fuming! Definatly report them to the police. We had neighbours before we moved to Oz who would have though nothing of doing that and would have totally felt hard done by that you had told them to leave. It makes me mad that people nowadays think they have a right to other people's things, including their drive ways and touching their private property. Hubbie used to be a postie, and used to deliver to my parents house, on a road with no parking. They went away for a few days and while delivering the post he saw a van on their drive way. He told them that they could park there that day as the space was not needed, to which they said 'we don't care anyway, we park where we like'. Hubbie raised his eyebrows, and went inside the house for a pee. When he came out they were very appologetic, but still, just goes to show the cheak of some people. Cooks
I just had to go to the post office and was thinking about this whilst driving there... as you do.... I cannot believe their absolute cheek!, I would have been gobsmacked!
Guest
Mollystar Did they go into your garden or is it open at the front and can you just walk in? Either way I think you need to beef up your security so that people can;'t just wander in when you are out! The eglu/cube can be replaced - but your girls?????? It doesn't bear thinking about! Ain't Nobody Here
I can't believe that . Well done for getting their car details . I'd definitely report the incident to the police, you may find they've been doing similar things elsewhere . I'd have been totally spooked by something like that . Poor you . Alfred
Sounds horrible. Fancy swearing and spitting at a complete stranger whose land you are on. I would have apologised if it had been me. Also if they turned up the wrong lane, why park and get out rather than just leaving? I would call the police and alert the neighbours. Also padlock your gates when you are out? Bear in mind that the police don't accept CCTV as admissible evidence unless it is a system they approve of - my boss caught an employee stealing out of the till on several occasions on CCTV - you coud clearly see it was him and he had been doing it for ages - but the police would not take the CCTV evidence to court as it was not an approved one. The employee got away with several thousand pounds over a few months.
Vicky40
Oh my goodness, poor you. They sound like they were up to no good and you were lucky to arrive home when you did. As a precaution could you consider moving the eglu and girls to somewhere less visible incase they decide to come back?

catherinej
Good for you! Hopefully you won't see or hear from them again. I really worry about what society is coming to when people behave in this way. Why don't people have any respect anymore?
