I'm biased - I chose the name that's the same as one of my 3 boys. Anyway, I think you should choose the name that feels right to YOU (which I'm sure you will) - and you might not even decide that until once the baby is born. Good luck and keep us posted!

I'm not the best person to ask, having tried to find a name we all like for our new rescue cat for the past 3 weeks. But Elijah is nice, I think, just that bit different. For your baby, not our cat.

I love Elijah but voted Joseph on the basis it's less weird if he wants a 'serious' job when he's big. We (OH and me) are arguing about potential baby names and I'm not pregnant. I like quirk, he wants straight, his reason being that we don't grow up with a kid who hates their name. You've got to pick the name YOU love best really - and one that suits them when they pop up. He might be a John now, but an Elijah when he pops out.

I like Joel or Joseph on the basis that he could shorten them to Joe (although both full names are really good too!) Voted Joel in the end!

Unfortunately like Pengy, Elijah is associated with a child I have taught and it's not a positive association... although it shortens really nicely to Eli...

 

Naming my own was a nightmare, but these four names are all lovely so I'm sure one fo them will suit him when he arrives!

I like all of the names but I think it is a good idea to have good old conservative name like John as a middle name, then if he doesn't like his first name when he grows up he has something else to choose from. Rona is my middle name and I changed to it when I left home in my teens as I hated my first name when I was growing up, although I like it now. It is, or rather was, Faith and I always got teased about it, probably because it was different from the Margarets, Elizabeths, Marys etc that seemed to be the norm then.

We had a favourite name for Bogwoppit and were 99.9% sure when he arrived that it was the right name, but still didn't tell anyone for two days just in case we changed our minds! An unusual surname made it more difficult. (Obviously Bogwoppit isn't his real name!)

Names are so hard. we've never been a look at it and decided couple. The other three were already named before they were born and I'm getting a bit weird now calling it the baby and not by a name.

Plus we need to decided quickly as the thing needs a passport sorted as soon as possible.

 

I can see us still arguing about it when I'm supposed to be flying out. We are just nowhere near having a name that we agree on

James was "Gizzy" before he was born. My mates son was 2 and when I arrived for the first visit with James he hugged him and said "Gizzy".

 

James was always going to be James Philip OR Philip James. My dad was Philip and it was a year after he died when I had James. I said if he was born on the "anniversary" he would be Philip James. He was born by C section a few days before the anniversary so was James Philip. I still can't quite describe the night I chain smoked through outside the hospital - we were in the childrens ward with bad jaundice and it was a year since I watched Dad die and I actually couldn't be in the room with my sick baby for fear I would watch him go too.
