Boybeck
I am in the process of creating a walk in run. What substance do you use for the chickens to dust bathe in?
shibby69
I usually use compost mixed with play sand
Patricia W
Mine love dry compost or bark etc. I now have deep hole in the borders where I've put bark or compost! But they do love it..
purplefowler
I was going to aske the same thing. I have been using a mix of soil (ours is quite sandy anyway) mixed with bird dust from wilkinsons. It is in a cat litter tray. One of the lies down in it for her afternoon nap. but other than that there is no interest in it at all. I have been dying to see them rolling about in it, but they don't seem as keen as I am
Redwing
I use a mix of compost and ash
Valkyrie
Topsoil and some compost with Diatom. They are now using my runner bean trench - which is now not a trench and quite level.
Hen Watch
Dry earth from hubbie's greenhouse.

Ain't Nobody Here
Mine just use the Hemcore/Easibed and soil that's in the run . Tried an old tyre with playsand, compost and Diatom but they were so scared of it I had to remove it .
LaPoule
Dry compost and woodash, with a dusting of diatom. For years, my pekins ignored my dustbath in favour of digging their own in odd corners. However, the last one died a few months ago ( ), and the new hybrids are particulary keen - watching them, all of a sudden the other chickens seemed to have realised what that random box that was always in their way is for after-all
