sandyhas3chucks
http://littlehenrescue.co.uk/default.aspx Little Hen Rescue's biggest ever appeal.....10,000 hens to be rehomed by the end of June. Can you help? Hello lovely people, I needed to get your attention - and quick!! Little Hen Rescue are about to attempt the unbelievable.......by trying to rehome 10,000 hens in less than 2 months.... Yes, 10,000 hens in 2 months..... As some of you may know, we have been working hard to empty a Norfolk battery farm for the last 9 months or so. This is the farm that got LHR started and where Mel's Phillis came from. The girls in these barns have been in quite a frightful state and we have given thousands of them the chance of a new life. However, this farm is now closing and going into something different (not livestock) BUT there is approximately 10,000 girls left in there. The farmer has the slaughterman booked for the 29th June. Any girls not rescued by then will go to slaughter, with no if's or buts and no second chances. So.........Here's your opportunity to help! We need co-ordinators, volunteers, fundraisers, poster putter-uppers and the like, so PLEASE, PLEASE do what you can to help. If you live far from Norwich, then maybe you could help with some admin? Maybe you could raise the awareness in your area? Maybe you could spend some time answering queries from potential re-homers. Whatever you can do, please, let me know. We have to cast our net far and wide now, to rehome to different areas. We desperately need co-ordinators in Northants, Peterborough, Surrey, Kent, and the surrounding areas. Please you lovely lot, this is your chance to help rehome some of these beautiful girls. I really do believe that we can pull together and get these girls out. BeckyBoo
I'll put an ad on the small ads at work tomorrow, I'd take a few more on myself, I've got room, just no way of housing until introductions are done. I'll put it on my Facebook page too, even if between us we only managed a couple more homes that's another lot of hens saved form the compost heap. dame egna
I would definitely consider taking 3 hens (doesn't sond many does it!!??!) but I'm in Devon, so I really don't know how I'd even get them down this way??? Not possible?
Suzy
I can help with pet carriers and I am happy to drive as many hens as you can fit in a mini to wherever needed. (There's a joke in that somewhere). Also, is it not worthwhile linking up with BHWT for this one? They may have some contacts as I know they have waiting lists in some areas. Would OMLET consider putting something on their website? BeckyBoo
Poo and pants, I thought the rescue was going to be 29th June, was going to offer to come to Norfolk with you - can't do 23rd May as I'm working. I've got a home for 4 though - someone at work has two chooks left in his mini-flock and wants to expand again so thats good news! HENthusiastic
I'm a bit far away. But me and OH would be happy to answer people's questions. We have had 3 ex-batts of our own. I'll PM you. for your good work.
sandyhas3chucks
Becki, have had offer of home for 400!!!!! But dunno as yet how that will sit with "pet" policy only!!! I know they would be freeranging ina small holding.... and selling eggs. But 50 on 23rd will be a start, If we get enough requests then we can do a other batch"
Chook n Boo Mum
Sandy, I definitely can't help with the rescue on 23rd, as it's speech day at DS's school, then we are scooting off to DH's college reunion for the Sunday It only happens once a year & I feel I have to attend, although I'd much rather be with chooks it has to be said! I'm working on DH to see if we can take some of the poor little girls.... When are you thinking you may do another run? 400 ? Crikey, that's a big smallholding isn't it? Sha x
julia55
I would definitely like to take 3 or 4 (which following request for 400 sounds ridiculous but every little helps) but I'm in Bath so would be a long drive. If anyone further down South/South West is picking up a few or having some delivered perhaps could coordinate a drop off.
dame egna
I have spoken with hubby, and we would also definitely take 3-4 too, but were in Devon. We would travel a little way to collect them if necessary - perhaps it could be done if somebody is coming near this way??? Julia55 - perhaps we could somehow help each other out?! Dunno how yet.... but there must be some way lol
