jackiepoppies
At the news reports about MPs expenses claims. OUR money If any of us normal mortals put in such fraudulant (?sp) and ridiculous claims we'd be before a judge I'm not often speechless, but this is an insult to all decent people Jx
Ain't Nobody Here
I know, it's unbelievable isn't it . It beggars belief that they think they are entitled to claim for these things .

Looney
Yup, it is incredible I was also dumbfounded by a council that did the 'honourable' thing of giving up their bonuses for the year....wow......all that taxpayers money that could be used in the community.....nope they donated it to the Samaritans! I think the Samaritans is a great charity but who are they to decide to donate taxpayers money to charity?! My parents were livid
Space Chick
Don't get me started!!!!! (She gets out a soap box) First, we have to pay for MP's to have a 2nd home because (boo hoo hoo) they might have to commute to London occasionally! - Well stay in a travel lodge like everyone else then! Then, the banks got into a bit of bother because they were more concerned about making money than actually being responsible with money - so "we" the tax payer had to bail them out. Then you see pensioners being unable to pay council tax increases because the councils lost loads of cash through bad investments eg. Icelandic banks, and the pensioners get criminal records! How come I and other responsible citizens are always the ones doing the bailing out by holding down jobs, paying our bills and taxes, and yet get no benefits and thanks for it. I sometimes think that I should quit my job, get into financial difficulty and then I might be valued and recognised by the state. (She folds down soap box and goes off muttering!) Joojoo
Grrrrrr you've got me started now. *gets my soap box out too* I've been ranting about this all blasted day!! I'm seriously struggling, and have been since ex OH walked out 5 years ago, to keep a roof over mine and Ashley's heads, nevermind putting food on the table or buying our clothes from Tesco and Asda but this past 5 months I have been working 270 hour months to try and make things easier. I'm absolutely exhausted. It makes me soooooooo angry that these people, who are voted in by us the taxpayers are just laughing all the way to the bank. They don't give a monkeys about what's best for this country anymore, if they ever did. Look at the state it's in and they are poncing around living the life of luxury at our expense. I quite honestly can't see how they can justify half of it, but it's one thing to claim for things when duplicate purchases have been necessary eg a bed or cooker, but to be buying wide screen tv's x 2 and king size beds valued at £1500 when I know damn well you can get a perfectly comfortable one for £200 (it's not even as if they are in it every night) and all the other luxuries that half of us might be lucky enough to be able to buy once, is one thing, but some of them are claiming for groceries!!!!! WHAT?????? What the heck (insert your own suitable word here if that isn't strong enough) is that to do with needing to support a second home? For goodness sake they would be buying groceries full stop wherever they were living! I can't for the life of me understand how they are getting away with any of it. Don't even get me started on all the people moving into Britain (along with the lazy articles who were born and bred here), who don't do a stroke of work and have no intention of ever doing so, who get everything paid for while I'm working myself into an early grave just to survive. I can honestly say if I didn't have my Dad around to care for I would *** off abroad!!! If you can't beat em, join em!! Rant over (for now) grrrrrrrrrrrrrr Edited May 8, 2009 by Guest
Egluntyne
How dare they expect the public to pay for their chocolate biscuits, disposable nappies and tampons.....to say nothing of bath plugs, pot plants and wide screen TV's. The world has gone mad. And the stench of corruption can be smelled even at the top.

Space Chick
Have been telling OH about this thread. He has a rather excellent theory. Rather than all these MPs having 2nd homes in London and claim crazy amounts, why don't they set up MP housing, basically like nurses accommodation or halls of residence. They can book a room when they need it, it can have a bed, a desk, on-suite shower room, a shared kitchen etc. Would save us as tax payers a fortune. Tessa the Duchess
Agreed it is really shocking the amount of tax payers money the politicians have been spending, although apparently all within the 'rules'. The 'rules' are laid down by the politicians themselves doncha know But casting all that aside for a moment....I actually find this whole situation really hilarious the embarrassment factor is so high, all these po faced people who are supposed to be moral examples for us poor citizens being caught red handed with their hands in the till. This is better than going to the theatre Well done the Daily Telegraph, I can't wait for tomorrow's installment of sleaze exposure. fluffyfeet
What about sticking them in one of those Japanese (I think) pod hotel things - I saw one on TV a few years back and they are mainly used by businessmen, and were ideal, what you'd call 'fit for purpose' - basic, cheap and comfortable - and no room for mistresses either - a win win situation! lol Dx

Cate in NZ
Hmm, I'd not heard about this, but strangely enough I'm not in the slightest bit surprised. bluekarin
It is incredible what MPs think they can get away with. And when caught out, spout off about needing 'transparency'! I won't say any more as it's all been said on here, and I'll only end up get cross. Debs; I also think they should live in halls when they are required in parliament. I remember watching HIGNFY a few weeks ago and they showed a clip from question time where an mp said that we didn't understand how finiky parliament is. They have to be at work on time. And David Dimblby said 'What, like a job?!' I laughed!
missuscluck
Im not really surprised by this at all tbh. Im so fed up with the whole situation I could scream. Was it ms Blears who had claimed her expenses up to the nearest pound? What does that tell you???? Anything will do as long as we get our $$$$$ as much as we possibly can. I would like Joanna Lumley to take over and sort us all out. I for one am enjoying watching her make our politicans squirm on T.V. Go girl What a bunch of muppets we have 'running' our country. Shame on you all.

Agree with the above, why not make Buckingham Palace into halls of residence? there must be loads of rooms not used on a regular basis. Good security, walkable to Westminster, loads of parking space at the front.

I can just see the headlines now "Chicken keepers want MP's cooped up" My theory too !!! I'm sure the cube could be adapted somehow, maybe made double width, a mattress added rather than roosting bars, put a couple of shelves in instead of the nest box for their toiletries & briefcase (although if they could lay an egg occasionally at least they'd be doing something productive ) all set around a communal toilet/shower unit like you get on any good campsite and a small communal kitchen. I understand pedal feeders are good for keeping rats out of the food If they were run by a dragon of a landlady there wouldn't be any chance of any "extra curricular" activities, and would there be room in a cube anyway?! They'd be easy to keep clean & hygienic between sleepers.......... I can see potential in this idea!!! Sha x
Valkyrie
Apparently we bought a bag of manure for someone. Well they could have asked first - we all have plenty! Actually they can't have mine because I need it! I love the idea of cooping them up. OH has already told my mum off for getting me going yesterday. I just think daggers and wonder who can be trusted in all parties - which I would very much like to see a list of.
