Griffin
I've started another thread for my chicks, I didn't want to add these lovely photos to the end of the old thread because it was a bit sad. These are my reasons to be cheerful.......... A bowl of black Orps & lavender Aracaunas A bowl of silver grey Dorkings I need help sexing one of those, one is definitely a girl, much darker head, one is lighter so therefore a boy, the other one is neither light or dark and is confusing me An Orp checking out the blue Polands bum! The ickle tiny Poland having a hug with friends Lav Aras And some group photos, minus one or two that were being cuddled my my three year old who is delighted with them: And while I'm at it, Tiger Lily and her baby Brahmas who are 10 days old today! jenniewren76
congratulations they are sooo cute. I keep thinking how wonderful it is for children to see and experience these things. Will you keep them all? What will you do with the cockrels? I ask because I would like to hatch one day but I don't know what to do with them as I know I wouldn't be allowed to keep them. Griffin
We'll probably keep all the girls, the boys will be dinner if we can't find homes for them. That Poland had better be a girl or there will be lots of disappointed people in my house
jenniewren76
So how old will they be before they become dinner? and will they crow before that? Now I'm thinking
Griffin
No idea, but they day they crow is the day they go! They might make a full on roast or maybe just a light snack My Light Sussex boy and Leghorn boys are 13 weeks and haven't crowed yet. Griffin
Well Paxo & the Light Sussex growers moved on to their new home today, but the arrival of yesterdays ex-batts negates that The three meat boys will not be here forever so they don't count We have to face the fact that around half of all our chicks will be boys so I'll not be adding a huge amount of new girls to our flock, probably just one of each breed (or colour in the case of the Orps!). The Orps & Brahmas will have their own accommodation and I'm thinking of having a separate flock for the Silkies & Poland if it's a girl. All in all I expect to have around 20 to 25 permanent residents by the end of the summer Thankfully Mr Griffin loves the chooks too
