Redwing
Its day 21 today and the eggs in the incubator are showing no signs of hatching No wobbling, no noise, nothing Can anyone advise if their eggs did anything to show they might hatch at this point or if the first chick out prompted action in the others? I have cast my mind back over what I have done and no mistakes were knowingly made, all turning was done on time, temp was stable etc... I even drove down to Wiltshire to collect the eggs rather than let them brave the postal system Edited June 6, 2009 by Guest
Lewis
Be patient They are sometimes late, up to 3 days we've had and the chicks were fine. Just made sure humidity is around 65% relative humidity so the shell isn't too dry and chicks can pip. Once the first one is out, they will cheep away and encourage the others to get out. craftyhunnypie
Ditto to the above. I know Cochins take 22 days - perhaps there are more breeds that do also. I bet they pip tonight. You notice a tiny hairline crack first, then a V shape, then that gets chipped off, then there is a tiny hole, then more cracks, then sort of sawing & cutting round - a bit like when you cut your top off your boiled egg. I use a maglite torch from the outside of the incubator to check for signs of pipping. Sometimes eggs don't wiggle at all - don't worry! Good luck! Jules.
Oh I hope something happens really soon . We had a chick pip at 20 days & the majority were out by 21 days, with 3 hatching on day 22. Have any of eggs been candled during the incubation so that you know that they are definitely fertile?
Phosphorus
What breeds are they? You have blue eggs listed - if those are araucana the breeder I got mine from said that they are normally the first out of the incy - his are always day 21 if they are going to hatch. Other breeds as already mentioned can take a couple of days longer. Will also depend on when they were laid as well I think, whether they take an extra day or so and also whether the incy temp was a bit lower than usual. Hope something happens soon for you. Redwing
Update! we have one pipping and some cheeping I know we are a long way from there but its hopeful! I didnt see the crack and went to add some more water just in case the humidity wasnt high enough and a drop fell on the egg and it cheeped - scared the living daylights out of me I read that you should count the first day as zero which I didnt do I candled the Wyandotte eggs which were fertile and growing but the shells of the others were too thick to see much The blue eggs are cream legbars Fingers crossed, I know one person who won't be getting much sleep tonight

Redwing
Quite frankley its wrong that I should have to come to work today When I left I had one pipping, three lots of cheeping and one that had used a chainsaw (I believe) to chop its egg in half but hadn't yet made an appearance I can hear tapping too, like little mini hammers and chisels at work awwww! Hubby is at home but I can't call him every five minutes because he has worked a night shift and apparently it isn't allowed or something....he said something about needing sleep...
