two cats to adopt!!!! UPDATE - THEY'RE OURS!!!!! HOORAY11111

Recommended Posts

We've been so upset at Rascal's death and we miss him so much. However, we know that he's not suffering now and, having been to a rescue centre open day (one we support) we felt that we would like to offer a home to another cat.

As we're able to financially and we have the room we thought we would try for two. It's so sad that people are struggling to keep their pets and what is happening as a reult.

Fur saw the mention of "cat chat" on the forum. As a result we've been looking on a regular basis. Although we help sponsor a pen at one cattery they didn't have any pairs that clickd with us. Now, at another rescue centre it seems we've been matched to a pair of cats, just at the right time.

We are on leave for the next fortnight and are going away for part of it. We are now going to visit our two prospective adoptees on Monday. If it works out the centre will hold them for us till we get back, when we can pick them up.

We find ourselves very excited and at times still tearful about Rascal. However, we are looking forward and are glad that we can possibly offer a home to a brother and sister whose previous owner had to give them up due to losing a home.

It's madness, but we've got some treats to take them, we're sleeping with a couple of old tops in the bed to leave with them if all goes well. We have refrained from toys (all our previous cats have only gone for laces/string!).

Does anyone have any advice on owning two cats? Whilst very experienced with one, we're new to having two.

My two get on well together (even though one is evil and seeking to overthrow us and the government but thats another story  ) They look to each other for comfort, one is somewhere between 16-19 and the other is 8 but the age difference doesnt seem to matter now (it did when Starsky was a kitten  )

They use the same litter tray and drink from the same water bowl but have separate feeding bowls, we find this works well and keeps any arguements to a minimum. Its impossible to feed them different food so they eat the same stuff

The dog winds them up mind so I think they have to stick together

Good luck with yours! x

I also have two cats - one approx 19, deaf as a post, no tail and slightly bent, the other about 10, and a right bruiser, and they get on brilliantly - grooming each other, curling up together even sitting on top of each other - literally - if the old one (Mortimer) is on my lap and the other one (Pants) decides he wants my lap as well.

The older one 'taps' the younger one on the head sometimes as if to say 'you're getting out of line sonny' but apart from that no probs.

Well done for giving them what will obviously be a loving home.

Having two cats is great, it's no more work than one and double the pleasure in my view!

I've just adopted Cat #2 and it will be a while before she and my existing cat will even sit in the same room, but if you're adopting a sibling pair or cats who have previously lived together, that won't be a problem. They will keep each other company while you're out, and play together.

You won't regret it - nothing takes away the pain of losing Rascal, but it's great to be able to offer a loving home to two cats who would otherwise spend their lives in a pen. Good for you!

Off topic I know (sorry) but

You have a cat called PANTS? :eh:

Is there a story behind that?

And Fur'n'Feathers, 2 cats really are no more difficult than one, what a nice thing to adopt two together. I'm sure they'll have a very happy home with you.

It is honestly!!

Short version - next door's neighours cat had kittens, one of which they called Pants. Couple divorced, 2 teenage daughters decided to do their own thing, but pets weren't allowed in the flats they wanted so Voila!

Not entirely certain where the name came from but everyone seemed to be saying 'That's pants' or 'what a load of old pants' around the same time.

He's a perfect example of Big Pants  I suppose

if you're adopting a sibling pair or cats who have previously lived together, that won't be a problem. They will keep each other company while you're out, and play together.

The male is 2 and the female is 1 but they are brother and sister and we're told by the rescue centre that they love each other to bits. As a result the centre was looking specifically to go as a pair and said "we will not have these cats homed separately". Perfect for us though!

Thanks everyone for your comments. We have to say they've only served to make us more excited!! Tomorrow 11am is C-Day (Cats Day!)

We went to see our two prospective pussies today and.......................fell deeply in lurve!!!!

Marley is 2 1/2 years old and is a bruising strongly marked tabby of about a stone (all muscle!).

Marcie is 1 year old and petite at about 2/3 of Marley's size and a dusty coloured mackerel tabby.

Marley is not happy in the run and we're sure that we haven't seen his full potential. However, he still head-butted us persistently and loved his treats. Marcie spent her time grabbing our hands to indicate she wanted more!!!

We've signed all the forms, paid and they're kindly holding them for us until we're back from our holiday. We're collecting them on 28 June. We can't wait and have gone all "nest-building" - we've got their food in, some more treats, a second carrier (Marley would take up ALL of the existing one!) and have already got everything out of storage so it's ready for them when they arrive.

ROLL ON 28TH JUNE!!!!!! :clap::clap::dance::dance::dance:

:clap: That's fabulous news!! We can't wait for the 28th and lots of kitty pics!! It sounds like they are going to a wonderful home!

Have a look at the initial picture on the rescue site!

The picture really doesn't do them justice as they were unsettled and new. They're more relaxed now.

We think that Marley's bed is yards in the background really, as he doesn't look that big in the picture :lol:

:D They're gorgeous, and Marcie looks just like my very own Wellington, only smaller!

What a lovely pair - bet you'll be wishing your holiday away till you can get back and welcome them home! Congratulations.

Yep!! Do we go away???? Yes/ No/ Oh the dilemma!!!!:lol::lol::wink:

Actually - yes we do need to go away. We need the rest.! :D

Ho hum :whistle::whistle:

Just couldn't resist buying this today from the pet shop in Hythe:

It's also their website.

To be fair, we had been looking at them on the internet, but this one was cheaper & slightly larger. It was the same price as on their website, so we didn't need to pay postage! The lady was very funny and friendly. She says they send out all over the country.

Ahh they are so cute!! i love having 2 cats we have a brother and sister as well! We got them from a rehoming centre when they were 5 months old! i love them both to bits and they were no more hassel being kittens and 2 of them that my old cat Boots was until we had to sadly have him put to sleep last year.

Ours use the same litter tray, seb is very particualr about it, jodie uses it and when shes finished Seb goes in and covers everything over for her! they drink out the same bowl but do have separate feeding bowls as Seb is a lot more greedy than Jodie!

You will love having 2 cats! its double the enjoyment and double the love! Seb is more attached to me and Jodie is more attached to my OH so it will be interesting to see if yours pick a favourite as well!!
