Jules.
Looking back over my 2 years on the forum it seem to me how things have moved on loads. Firstly it was all eglu talk, then exciting cube talk, then the turn came of the WIRs! Now it seems like the main discussions are hatching chicks & dispatching chickens for food. What will we be talknig about this time next year?
Cooks
funny thing I did mention this to a friend that all the talk ais about hatching lately..
moochoo
It's fabulous how we've all grown in confidence. We start off not knowing our wattles from our elbows and now we're fully fledged chicken keepers. Ever day still seems to be a learning curve. There's never a boring day with chickens! Griffin
We're approaching my chook keeping anniversary, my first five chickens came home on August 8th last year. Who would've thought that less than a year later I'd have 8 hybrids, 3 ex-batts, 3 meat boys, 4 girls I hatched myself, a Silkie & her 4 Brahma chicks, 9 pure breed chicks in my brooder and 24 eggs incubating in the garage Let me be a warning to others! moochoo
You're just a bad influence I wonder how many of us have stuck with the original hens they had at the beginning without adding more?
Redwing
ANH has and I think Yolky has, I bet there are more but not very many more
The Dogmother
I reckon that Tasha has the prize for fastest flock growth It seems like only yesterday you were getting your first girls and collected my run converter.
Cooks
yes Tasha it's all your fault...
Yolky
Yes ANH and myself are the only sane ones who still only have their original flock I have to say one of the reasons is that my three girls get on so well and make hardly any noise that I am a little frightened to rock the boat and add any. I don't want to upset the neighbours. We have had a good think about having some chicks, especially when Peaches was broody earlier in the spring and I do keep seeing beautiful bantams that I would love. I do have a feeling my flock may grow next year. My youngest will be at school in Sept and so I will need more things to take my time up. I don't know if it counts but I have gained 2 guinea pigs since joining the forum and I was inspired to get them by reading the guinea pig section of the forum. I have really enjoyed watching everyone elses flocks grow, seeing pics of chicks and new hens. I have lived vicariously through you all, especially Tasha...who I think may eventually turn her whole back garden into a chicken run
Ain't Nobody Here
Yes ANH and myself are the only sane ones who still only have their original flock I have to say one of the reasons is that my three girls get on so well and make hardly any noise that I am a little frightened to rock the boat and add any. I don't want to upset the neighbours. I was going "me, me ", then saw Tasha's and your posts . I've not expanded for just the same reasons as you . Also, my WIR is fabulous but I think it would be a bit small for 5 . Although, as I'm lucky if I get one egg a day at the moment, I have been pondering whether I should get two new girls .
