Griffin
My youngest has it Georgia is only three years old. I knew Wednesday night she wasn't quite right. She seemed chirpy enough yesterday morning, probably excited because we were going to Bournemouth for the day. By lunchtime she was clingy, miserable, had a temperature and she spent most of the afternoon asleep in her tent on the beach. Luckily I'd got some Calpol in the car and she perked up for a little while after that. By the time we'd got home she was bunged up with a cold. Not long after we'd put her to bed she got up shivering violently with a sky high temperature, she was quite distressed This morning she has the runs too. As she seems to be ticking a lot of the boxes I phoned the helpline this morning. What a rigmarole that was! I spoke to a young lad, who was clearly inexperienced, read very slowly and hesitantly from a script and he asked me 3 billion silly questions before declaring she has Swine Flu and that I should collect some Tamiflu for her. Then we had one of those 'computer says no' situations His computer claimed there was nowhere in Oxfordshire that stocked it He said he had a list of places in Swindon that had it, I didn't know where most of them were so I asked if Boots in Greenbridge, Swindon was on his list and he said yes so that's where I've been this morning. There were other people waiting, some coughing and sneezing, spreading their germs far and wide I don't mind Georgias germs but I find other peoples repulsive I was hoping we could all be quarantined so I didn't have to go to work this weekend but the advice now is only quarantine those who display symptoms. Hey ho.......
Tiggy
I think the swine flu hot line is brilliant no one in my surgery & the phones have calmed down, normally I spend hours each day talking to perfectly fit well worried people. So far I have appointments free for people who really need to be here or need advise, but dont tell everyone
Joojoo
Hi Just a quick question if anyone can answer me please? Which seems to be the first symptom of Swine Flu? The reason for me asking is I've become really hot on my upper body, face and neck in the past few hours and am just off to get a thermometer as I can't find ours. Does the fever usually start before the cough or sneezing or is it after? Hopefully I'm just being over zealous (either that or it's the menopause starting I will be 40 next week after all!!) but I thought it worth asking. Thanks Jue
Griffin
Georgia had a temperature and general yucky feeling before her cold appeared. Within 24 hours she had nearly all the symptoms. Tonight my eldest daughter Daisy has a high temperature too and she hasn't eaten any dinner. Poor girl has been frightened by all the media hysteria and tonight told me who to invite to her funeral and what we should all wear! That's awful - poor little mite The media really are feeding off people's worries. Thanks for your reply. I'll keep everything crossed it eases off as I haven't got any other symptoms at the moment other than a bad headache which I've had for weeks so I'm pretty certain that's not part of it (at the moment anyway). Give Daisy a big hug from us. I hope she is feeling better soon. xx
Yorkshire Pudding
Poor girl has been frightened by all the media hysteria and tonight told me who to invite to her funeral and what we should all wear! Awww poor love! It is amazing and quite frightening what they pick up. Oh that's awful, poor little soul to be worrying like that. My own two have asked a fair few searching questions about what will happen if we catch swine flu and why the news is full of people dying from it. I have done my best to reassure them that they'll be fine as they are healthy strong boys, but they are worried. My sister and friend are both pregnant and concerned too. Blooming media. ClaireG
I felt a bit rough on Tuesday and Wednesday but was feeling a lot better on Thursday and was able to go to Silverstone on Friday. I was achy at Silverstone but put it down to the amount of walking we were doing. Yesterday i was still achy and really tierd with a slight sore throat. Slept badly was achy and had headache in the night. Was dripping with sweat at about 6.30 this morning and so achy i actually walking down the stairs to get to the loo (downstairs bathroom). I've also started coughing and have the runs. Not good when it hurts to move DH has been on the website and got refrence number to get Tamiflu. He has had to go to work today but has taken DS with him and they are getting my Tamiflu on the way back.

My friend was really bad for a week and locked herself away in her bedroom for 4 days. She is much better now though, thankfully.
redhotchick
My sister, who has already been diagnosed as COPD*, and generally struggles with breathing/chest complaints has swine flu She lives 4 and a half hours drive away In Somerset. It's very worrying and upsetting. *Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease It's a worry how many people are willing to carry on, go to work, get on with daily activities etc, and shrug it off. Not realising or admitting that they are ill. Claire G for example "felt a bit rough" for a few days but carried on. (I'm not blaming you Claire, I felt "a bit rough" myself last week, but carried on too). People are often unwilling to admit they are ill and soldier on to work. The current economic climate has made it even more difficult not too. My own thoughts, from what I have heard through the media, are that, although it is highly contagious, it is not a severe illness unless you have underlying health issues. It's a bit vague, and therefore still a bit worrying, generally, and especially for my sister. Further complicated if you are pregnant, as you can't take Tamiflu. Tiggy
there is a nasal spray if you are pregnant called rilensa, lots of people are worried about losing their jobs & going to work feeling wretched, Tesco does it again,, we've had a few calls from employees who are in a real flap, worried they will be on a disciplinary if they take time off, tesco insist on sick notes from day one, but we will not be seeing people with flu so cant do notes, tesco are not accepting self certs I wonder how the locals would feel if they knew that tesco was forcing staff with flu to serve their food?? Omletina Kyckling
Claire, I'm so sorry you're so under the weather. When you sent me the text on Saturday night I didn't realise you were that bad. I hope you're on the mend soon. We missed you on Sunday
ClaireG
I spent most of yesterday in bed and have been in bed a lot today to. I have to take 2 Tamiflu tablets a day for 5 days and have also been alternating ibuprofen and paracetamol. I no longer have the runs and my head feels a bit clearer and temp is coming down. Griffin
Georgias temperature is back to normal but she's having trouble sleeping. She's in bed with me & Mr Griffin and is violently tossing and turning all night, gets up, walks around, gets back in bed, fidgets and moans a bit more, over and over again. I'm hoping it's just a side effect from the Tamiflu, her last dose is tomorrow night.
ClaireG
Thanks everyone It's the aches and tierdness that are effecting me the most.
Chickvic
It took me ages to get over those last few symptoms too. Glad you are feeling better!
Griffin
Georgia is as good as new! She slept really really well last night too She takes her last Tamiflu tonight and she is very much looking forward to going out for the first time in a week on Thursday I hope that everyone else who has it is on the mend now too. It's just sods law that now Georgia has recovered one of the others will get it According to my mum the incubation period is seven days. Seeing as though I got coughed and sneezed all over while collecting the Tamiflu and I've been thoroughly exposed to Georgias germs I suppose there's still a chance I'll get it. Space Chick
I have it now The one thing I would say is that I can't get over how suddenly the symptoms came on. I was fine in work yesterday and then within an hour of getting home was in bed barely able to move. The advice from NHS Wales is different to England, so there is no Tamiflu unless you are in a high risk category, just paracetamol and plenty of bed rest (which isn't going to be difficult seen as I haven't got the energy to get up anyway ) Thank heavens for laptops and the Omlet forum, at least I won't go out of my mind with boredom whilst in bed.
