funky-chicken
What do you use as a 'hospital' cage, pen, coop? After having to separate one of our girls this morning I think a second home is a must for any future separations. I've been thinking along the lines of something like a second sleeping coop but then there's extra space and even more expense involved. A rabbit hutch, dog kennel? Any ideas would be gratefully received. Jan.
Space Chick
Lots of people use rabbit hutches with runs, the only concern would be if its fox proof.
Lewis
I have a rabbit hutch, and also a spare tortoise table type thing. I made it a few years ago and the tortoise has never used it so I use that, and its used as a brooder.
Egluntyne
I use a spare Eglu. You could use a dog crate or similar. As has been said, fox proofing it would be important.
Falkor
I have a guinlu run with weldmesh cable-tied to the back (including a skirt) and just popped a catbox inside. This then goes inside my WIR. But I have had it in the middle of the lawn with tent pegs holding it down. I think the guinlu run can be purchased on it's own from Omlet. Redwing
I bought this to use as hospital accom, (hopefully you can see it) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380133069861&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBDIX%3AIT&salenotsupported The idea was to put a small shelf in it that the chicken could roost on or under and they would have a bit of room away from the elements to move about as its an ok size I now have so many chickens that this will now be pressed in to service as a full time chook home for the table birds but the plan was good! Lydia
I use my 2 spare eglus and at least 1 is always on loan to someone else. Failing that the downstairs loo/bathroom serves as sick bay.
tidygirlsuk
My sick bay is indoors in a dog crate with a pet carrier to sleep in side it to sleep in.
Olly
spare Eglu run (wired on to the side of Cube, to close up the open end) with a cat-basket for roosting/laying in. This is really for introductions/bullying - a sick chook would be in the cat-basket in the downstairs loo. I haven't had one that needed a long-term hospital ward so far, I'd have to improvise if that happens.
Tulip
We're currently using a small kennel in a sectioned-off bit of the WIR for Chive and her babies. A sick chook would probably be inside the house in the kennel
Woodcat
hey I have a spare eglu plus multiple different rabbit runs if they are out in the garden and if they have to be in then i have a very very very large i think rat cage, it's even got it's own perch, that moves round the house depending on whos in it and how they are doing.
