Thought I'd share this view with you all. It's taken from the bottom of our garden/land. Under the red mark on the left lies the shrine at Knock. The mark on the right is the hill where St Patrick, preached to the people of Mayo. It overlooks Lough Lavallinree, down in the dip. St Patrick must have been a very busy man, he preached all over the place. Christie our local historian swears it's all true. Not being that religious, I have my doubts. Shows it's not always raining in Mayo.....

Hi Warrens World

I am sooooooo  of where you live. I adore Ireland and have Irish ancestry (Mums maiden name is Ryan and family in Dublin).

I spent some time in Spiddal, Co Galway a number of years ago and loved it. Did some travelling about too, Lisdoonvarna (during the match-making festival - mad!!) Rosmuck, and went up to Lough Corrib too - beautiful.

If I remember rightly, there wasn't very much at Knock and then somebody saw a vision of the Virgin Mary which prompted the shrine and then the airport???? Then again somebody might have kissed the Blarney stone lol.

Dawn x

These are some of the boys, our neighbours. We keep an eye on them and supply the water to our farmer friend John. This earns me a case of Irish, (yes I know its a tadge sexist, that's how it is in Mayo,) We know all our neighbours, we always have a chat/shoot the breeze. There's only 14 houses in our village, 7 have been built since we moved here 12/13 years ago. If your passing drop in for a cup of Tea and a piece of cake. I have to say Eileen integrated a lot faster than me, It must be those Ladies coffee mornings.

There's a village 3 miles up the road called Derreens, 12 houses and one old Irish bachelor, French , German, English, Belgium and Dutch make up the rest. We're the only English couple in our village, and we like it that way....... SO DO NOT MOVE HERE..... :P .

We've first refusal on that field, when John and Della sell it.......

Some lovely views there. I am also very  . I have never even been to Ireland but I am desperate to get over there.

Reading this thread is a bit like reading the titles to Christy Moore songs!!

Goodbye to the Port and Brandy, to the Vodka and the Stag,

To the Schmiddick and the Harpic, the bottled draught and keg.

As I sat lookin' up the Guinness ad I could never figure out

How your man stayed up on the surfboard after 14 pints of stout.

Thats my anthem.... and Its holiday Monday next......

My old schoolfriend's mum came from Drogheda. Went to Dublin and popped up to see her aunty on the farm. Fun time had by all. The only problem was that we all went to a dance and there was this fantastic tune. Didn't notice anything - was watching the band and danced to this tune (aunty tapped my on the shoulder - "it's the National Anthem").:oops::oops: Well it's a lovely tune. Tis, truly. I think that is the most embarrasing thing ever!

Slight digression there - it's all very lovely all around, and that is one stunning view.

One branch of my family hails from Limerick several generations ago. We have Brady's and Kirby's in our line.

Still a nice anthem. :anxious:

What lovely views, I'm so jealous.

I have to get over to Ireland at some point, Grandfather born in Dublin and a Great Grandmother born in Wicklow, I think, (Bridget O'Rourke - no doubt about the Irish connection :D ).

I'd hate to show you my view now as the pesky new neighbours at the bottom of my garden have chopped all the trees down so now I get to look at their ghastly house all the time

You said 'share a view' .....so I thought I'd add one of mine, well two actually......

This bit resembled a building site when we moved in - only the stone wall was there, without the steps.......no lawn...and no chickens....

It's a bit dark, sorry...

Schmiddick is the direct pronunciation in true Christy Moore style. However, what he's really referring to is Smithwick's, which is a Kilkenny beer. Perhaps not quite as well known, it's still nonetheless as Irish as Guinness.
