Strutting him/herself ?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

My in laws visited last weekend & the first thing they said was, "our Hen is a Cockerel", to

which we we're a little shocked but we have been feeling they could be right! This is Rhubarb

in all her/his glory:

We we're under the impression when with got both girls they were both around 8 weeks old, but if that's the case Rhubarb now towers over Custard & this would make them both c. 19 weeks old now.

Neither chook is laying any eggs & looking at Rhubarbs head gear well - we're a little confused really :think:

Does anyone have any thoughts, perhaps we have a male in our flock - which could be very

worrying for our Frizzle hens!!! Noooooo :shock:

Many thanks

Liz

Thanks for your replies - I feared as much :?:roll:

He is a super looking boy I must agree :D

As for keeping him.. this will be a tricky one to answer! He's currently housed with 4 girlies 3 of which are Pekin Frizzles (we hope they're all girlies anyway!) so that's possibly the first issue..

- waking us up at 4am not that he's made a peep on that front yet mmm that's about 2 hours too early :lol:

- we know the farm down the road has a cockerel as we hear him from time to time but not very much.. I'm not sure how that would go down with the rest of the neighbours, we don't have many & most of them are farms anyway..

So, to be honest I'm not sure what we'll do! He's so gorgeous & has a great personality..

:think::think::think::?:?:? I just don't know..

Perhaps we could have (hatch):lol::lol:

If it's any help, we've managed to contain our cockerel's crowing so he doesn't start till after 7 ( well most days !). We are not in the countryside ( but it's near) and the neighbours say they like to hear him. And as for your other hens, - maybe you'll start a new variety!

Good luck whatever you decide.
