Where shall I buy reading glasses on high street please?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have finally given in to needing some reading glasses+1 tested last week.

But as I am likely to lose them and sit on them..dog eat them etc ..you get the idea..the lady that tested my eyes said just go to a shop then you can have lots of spare ones! Which I thought was very good as their ones started at £40 for frames

So which stores please will sell me some at a low price, as its only for paperwork etc ..dont do designer etc

Thanks any ideas..just to save me some time searching

cheers indie :)

Since they got their opticians, they have reduced the range of the cheapies, and only have a few styles, but if you search around the first aid, make-up, contact lens solution etc, they lurk there.

If you can't get them, PM me and I'll pop into ours ( Abingdon). But I'm not likely to get there till Wednesday.

A thought - I wonder if Superdrug have them?

I will let you know where I find them as I do go by all the shops mentioned. I suppose I was disappointed that my super big Tesco charged such a lot in their optical dept. I started thinking I should have got them at the opticians in the first place!

Thanks very much to all responses very helpful

I have some of the Tesco £2.99 ones - they used to be on the pharmacy counter - just a small display, but that was before they had opticians.

I also have ones from the poundshop - I always read in bed and was worried about squashing them. My main reading glasses are expensive frames - I was drawn in by the hype while i was in there.......'two for one' offer etc.

Last month when I had my eyes re-tested I was ready - I didn't get on with varifocals and now I need distance glasses for driving so I had separate glasses - I went straight to the £25 rack in Specsavers :D I went back this week and had another pair made - one for the car and one for the TV.......still cost a lot less than one pair in fancy frames :D

Yes I am at the middle age squinting style and resisted for a while. But now it is annoying I did ask about driving but he said not yet!

I dont think mine are that bad fortunately but if I was havingto wear glasses all the time

I probably would perhaps spend a bit more..but I only get dressed up posh at christmas or parties..not too often. No one is going to see me(except the dog and chickens etc) .

So I only need cheapies for reading etc and a bit of work and the place I went he is a moorfields man & I was so impressed that he wasnt trying to sell me any of his glasses! Not got to go back for another 3 years....his receptionist showed me their range and then promptly told me to go to cheapie shop! How unusual is that.

Thanks for all the replies I will be looking for the below a fiver pair now!

I needed some glasses just for reading recently.

My Varifocals were okay but I found that having to lift my head up to read the newspaper through the close distance part of these glasses was giving me a neck ache.

I inquired at my local Tesco in-store opticians about glasses just for reading and was very surprised by the very low cost. Just £10! I think that was for the frame and the lenses were free!

The frames are very basic but more than good enough for short reading sessions.

I think they may have increased the price since then to £15 but it's always worth keeping a look out for their next promotion.

Hope this is of help, Dave

I have about 4 pairs of 1.5 glasses dotted around the house and got them all from Poundland - that way I don't have to worry about them gettings at on etc!

Optician has said I need varifocals as I am having probs with both close reading and distance (telewatching etc) but has quoted a min of £150.00 so they will just have to wait until I am REALLY squinting!

Keep an eye ( ) out in Lidl etc too, as I got some in a hard case, that live in my bag, they are pretty cool too! Also, our local "shop that sells high end stuff" sells a selection for about a fiver a pair, and they are really pretty , and quite on trend..
