Sir Terry is off into the sunset.

Recommended Posts

I remember getting up for school with Terry on the radio - then stopped when I left school. Then found him again about 6 years ago. But now it's been a while since I listened to Tel in the morning - no more school runs. But Janet and John will always be a fond memory of sitting at the motorway roundabout on the way home with tears streaming down my face, and me howling with laughter while the driver in the lane next to me wondered what the heck was going on.

I was going to buy the CD's for my dad for Christmas last year. But I think I might do it this year anyway just for me - and it's for a good cause.

Similarly the firework show won't be the same either.

When I was younger I never liked El Tel and used to laugh at his array of toupees but I guess we just grew old together and I grew into him.

 we're at risk of turning into TOGS OSH

I probably already am.

Infact I think I used to absolutely loathe him while my mum thought he was charming.

It's the Irish .... she loved Val Doonican and Dave Allen.

Oh I will miss Janet and John

I'm in a minority, I know, but I can't stand Terry Wogan :oops::anxious: .

I can't either, the constant innuendo and non funny smutty names he quotes gets on my nerves, every day is exactly the same - I do listen for the good traffic reports though!

I thought his speech was a bit much to be honest, he still has nearly three months to go!

It's a minority of 3 now then :D

I haven't listened to radio in the morning for years because the jocks are either too egotistical (Moyles, O'Connell), too cheesy (both local radio stations, Heart FM), too dull, totally unfunny and and generally up themselves (Wogan) or make me want to punch someone (pretty much anyone on R4). I hated Chris Evans in the 90s when it was all about him but these days he's mellowed out and I listen to him every day on drivetime. It'll be nice to have something to listen to in the morning.

My mother doesn't like the Irish either - very odd. I love a soft southern accent.

Minority of 4

I can see that he is held in great affection by many, but I have always found him way too waffly and annoying.

I have struggled with my radio listening over recent years. I was a radio 2 listener but not before 9.30am then I switched to radio 1 when the music improved after the 90's wildernes years. I find Chris Moyles ecotistical and annoying too, but love Jo Whiley and Edith Bowman, so that took care of my daytimes until now when they have been put out to grass.

I used to love Johnny Walker when he did drivetime, and have only listened to radio2 when he has taken over from TW when he is on holiday.

I think that the BBC has lost track of 40 somethings who were brought up with chart music, we have now where to go now. Radio 1 is too imature and radio 2 is too mature. I listen to 5 live and radio 4 but love music so it would be great to have a music station to listen too that was aimed at my age group.

I also find Steve Wright very annoying, I found him so in my youth and nothing has changed.

Chris Evans is ok, Ken Bruce is boring, Jeremy Vine is miserable and opinionated, Steve Wright is awful so where does that leave me when my favourite radio one DJs leave next Friday? :(

I was even moved to fill in a recent BBC survey about radio 2 will my views count in the big scheme of things?

My Grandfather hated the colour green and would not have anything green in the house (carpets, curtains, furniture etc) purely because he loathed Terry Wogan, and somehow linked Terry and the colour presumably because he is Irish.

He is the Marmite of the broadcasting world :) . He went down in my estimation when it came out that he was paid rather handsomely for hosting 'Children in Need' when everyone else was giving their time for free. He did give the money back, but only cause he was caught . Everytime he mentioned CIN after that I cringed and he mentions it about four times a minute.

On the whole I like him, I nearly crashed once when he queued up a certain Stranglers record as 'a tribute to our beloved Chancellor!' quality. :D.

I used to hate Chris Evans when he was on the telly, very irritating. I think he has been great on Drivetime so I hope he does a good job on 'Wake up to Evans' he might even keep the Janet and John bit. :D:D

Kev.

I don't dislike him but choose not to listen to him because his voice irritates me, Mum loves R2 but i'm a local radio girl as they tend to play things a 40 something listens to  not that i know the presenters names  i have the radio on as an alarm so really don't listen that well

Oh dear! I am 31 and have listened primarily to R2 for about 2 years now!

It does nothing for me most evenings though and the only thing that really annoys me is Elaine page laughing at her own not very funny jokes!

I'm gutted - I listen to the Tog-Meister on the way in to work, and Chris Evans on the way home. This will disrupt both. Radio 2 alliegance must be an age thing - all the DJs that were on Radio 1 when I was young have now been put out to grass on Radio 2

Those of you who think you hate Chris Evans give him a go - you are possibly remembering him from his TFI Friday days. I thought he was a complete twonk then also. Do give him a chance, he has discovered humility since he gave up the booze and is quite an intelligent guy really.

What are we going to do without the Janet and Johns though? And what will happen to Boggy?

Aaargh!

I used to love listening to Chris Evans on Radio 1 and if he's on Radio 2 and then followed by Simon Mayo it'll be like Radio 1 all over again! I will say though that what I've heard of him in the afternoon he really annoys me. Especially his 'need' to cut into the end of every song to either talk over it or sing over it. Really annoying.

I am alone in liking old Chris Moyles then  He really made me smile this morning when he got everyone to beep their car horns at 9 mins past 9 on the 09.09.09 I never used to like him though, so I think he must have mellowed over the years. I was the same about Scott Mills and now I quite like him in the afternoon. Its a shame Jo Whiley is leaving. Who's replacing her? Other DJ's I like is Sara Cox and Zoe Ball. Both similar but v funny.

Its the end of an era, but I can't believe that Tel is going and Sarah Kennedy is staying. I never turn the radio on before 7.30 to make sure I don't catch her waffling and twittering and stumbling over her delivery. I have reached that age where I swear at the radio I'm afraid. Chris Moyles is called "blow your nose Moyles" in our house, far too annoying to listen to for any length of time. Sir Tel's show hasn't been the same since the tragic early demise of Dr Wally....and the music chosen by Barrel Ann Boyles (or whatever his name is) has been mostly dire...ok if you like Country and Western, otherwise dreadful...I really enjoyed a few weeks when Johnny Walker stood in for him when he was on holiday, the music was great, and the banter with Bogsy and Lyn was very entertaining. I don't always tune in any more, although I was a regular listener before. I'm not sure about Chris Evans... sometimes I can cope with him and sometimes he is just too much like a Labrador puppy and just far too bouncy and so unless he tones it down a bit for the morning I'm not sure I'll want to listen to him either, but I'll give it a go. IMO best radio 2 presenters are Radcliffe and Maconie. Don't like Radio 4 in the morning ( although regularly tune in at other times) the news is just too depressing a way to start the day. Oh why am I so fussy - must be my age!!

me too!

It's defo an age thing re Radio 1 DJ's & then the DJ's going over to Radio 2, just as I descend into the pit of middle-age

They are aging with me..........

Well, I'm gutted because Simon Mayo is leaving 5Live - his show is my favourite programme. He's been disappearing a lot off the show for the past year or so, so I think this has been in the offing for some time.

I know I'm old now, because El Tel took over the Radio 2 show first time round when he was 32!!
