One Man Banned
Just posted this in the chickens section and thought I'd post it here What with all the wet weather and delightful clay soil here are the latest pics of our garden. First pic of the garden the day we got the laydess....... Current winter area for the laydees with one determined chook on the wrong side of the fence again. The patio area sums up the destruction of Geri! .....note slightly listing fence to the right! With both chooks where they're supposed to be! Isn't it sweet....just as I take the photo, Molly looks back and pokes her tongue out at me!! The muddy patches on what's left of the grass show more of Geri's destruction! Am I the only one, and mine can't be the worst surely? Can it?? A xx
Mrs Frugal
No, I think ours was probably worse the first year as we let them free range all over the garden so we lost ALL our lawn and had to reseed the whole lot. Now they aren't out for so long each day and we've still got some grass. Our garden from an upstairs window in March 2005!
Lesley-Jean
My chooks have been free ranging in my garden for 16 months. I took these pictures yesterday: They do have the shrub bed at the back to dig in. Perhaps that stops them recking the grass
Mrs Frugal
Wow, that grass looks lush, LJ! Mine had flower beds and a rough area at the bottom of the garden to dig and scratch in but they still ate every single blade of grass! Perhaps mine are just greedy! Snowy
Since I've had mine out of the run, they spend most of their time in the shrub border: Come out at 4.30, tired and muddy, and toddle off to bed!! The lawn damage in the foreground is from the wild birds!
chelsea
fab photo's. I love seeing pics (nosey me ) I think most peoples gardens are looking pretty drab this winter with this horrid weather, I keep clearing the leaves one day - and another pile arrive the next ! We are lucky in the fact that our garden is mostly a combination of different decks, gravel and grass and the girls hardly go on the grass - so it still looks ok. they like poo-ing on the decking though
gooner.girl
My garden is a nightmare now. Not that it was ever very flash anyway! The rain and the chickens have combined to make loads of mud!!!! Someone reassure me the grass grows back in the summer otherwise OH reaaly will put his foot down over more chooks! Just had to move the eglu onto a bark chipped part of the garden which i have quickly made (not very well)
Cate in NZ
Oh, this thread really does make me feel better. I'm not the only one with a devastated garden We mover our eglus to the bottom of the garden at weekend, something I'd resisted doing before because I do love seeing the girls running around the garden, but oh boy have they wrecked it. If I get a chance at weekend I'll post some pics.
Egluntyne
My garden is like Paschendael at the mo. Hope to rope younger son into helping ne move the chickens onto dry land at the w/e.
kannie
Yes our garden is rather the worse for wear, and we had to reseed last spring. This winter I'm letting the chooks out far less. Recently just an hour for a couple of times a week. Rather sad, but I'm hardly home during the light and its so often so wet.
