eggalp
I'm on the hunt for some new chicken food as the bags i keep buying from my local horse place always seem to be full of mites! I am thinking of trying the omlet organic chicken feed but can't tell if pellets or mash?? has anyone used this? Ideally i want to keep them on pellets. thanks
JanTheDiver
I have just bought a bag of mash as they keep on throwing the pellets every where and I don't want to encourage rats. The girls haven't had any yet so I am not sure how they will get on with it.
Redwing
I've not tried the Omlet stuff but the P&P makes it quite expensive. There is a Garvo feed supplier in Congleton, you could give that a try - its smashing stuff

DebC
This will depend where you live, but Countrywide stores sell chicken pellets and mash. They have stores all over the country, but never in towns! http://www.countrywidefarmers.co.uk/pws/CatalogueSearch.ice Hope this helps
chickenopolis
We used to feed ours the Omlet complete food, which they were not that fussed about. It is a reasonable price for the food, but the P&P makes it very expensive and not a viable option for us. I would persist with layers pellets. We get ours from Jolley's petshop. Add in a bag of "Feathers and Beaky chicken treat" for the afternoon feed - it has sunflower seeds, oyster, corn and pea grit. Hope this helps. The Dogmother
The organic pellets that Omlet used to sell were the Allen & Page ones (made by The Smallholder Group), lovely pellets and small enough for my banties. The new branded pellets aren't made by the same company. Most feed suppliers would order in whatever you want.
whoopsie
I've got the ones that came with the chooks at the moment (Layers pellets). Pets at Home have started doing chicken feeds and they have a fairly good selection including the same pellets without the Omlet name on them. Blimey I see what you mean about the P&P costs! prudance
Whichever brand you want it's worth shopping around. I had a look at Allen & Page's web site to find out who else stocked their organic pellets. I phoned around those in my area and found that prices varied quite a lot. I've now found someone who's quite cheap and is only a small detour for me to pick up.
whoopsie
I'm going to try getting my feed from wiggly wigglers next! www.wigglywigglers.co.uk - they sound really good!
chickweed
Eggalp.... I buy organic layers pellets from HJ Lea Oaks in Sandbach. I believe they have a shop in Congleton and other parts of Cheshire
laurmurf
I bought some of the Omlet branded organic feed to try out on the girls: it looks like crumble topping in the bag. I put it in 2 of the 5 grubs in teh run and they emptied the grubs by the next morning! Tried it again with the same result... this is their very favourite food EVER! I don't know who makes it but it is incredibly popular and they actively eat every last bit. I've not seen any thrown about either - like mash can be. It's a shame the postage is so high because I would happily place a regular order for this stuff!
SAB
I agree - my chickens and turkeys love it, but I could not afford to use it as their regular feed - will get it for them as a treat though - if money was not an issue I would use it all the time!
