Best compliment?

Whats a compliment?

Last time I got one was on a rather drunk night out at the end of term.. It was repeated loudly and often by my drunk colleagues and was hinged around how good I looked in tight leather jeans. Shame when I take them off you would be mistaken for thinking I was a cross between the michelin man and nora batty.

Well from DD's friends I apparently am cool, mad, funny, naughty, sweet (eh, the dragon lady sweet?).

And from DS's girlfriends I am really nice, funny, bonkers, sweet (where the heck do they get that from?) and from one of the lads in junior school I am an alien. Now there's the real me - more like the dragon lady after all. That was probably after DS got a good telling off when he deserved it in front of said friend. DS wrote a little book years ago in which I am one of the main characters - Queen of the Trolls. Oh he knows me so well.

I like it when one of the "darlings" at school says "yes I understand" (usually after 17 attempts of explaining something  )

and one of the darlings at school said to another teacher "you know, Mrs Y is really cool - I didnt realise that - she listens"

and when my SIL said "you know, you're my best friend" (I really had no idea she thought that way - I thought I was just SIL)

phew :D

Some lovely and funny compliments. I have had a really good chuckle.

My best one is when my loved one tells me I always look nice... er, covered in mud after gardening, covered in paint while decorating, a bit of dirty strw in my hair after cleaning out the hens, ducks and geese; you know the scenario! So do I really need to put on my best frock when we are going out?????

Another one was when one of my eldest daughter's friends always used to call me Mrs Ogre, because I would never let her do just what she wanted when she came over to play.

We were actually good pals!

:) makes you think about how easy it is to give someone a heartfelt compliment/thank you but how valuable it is.

A friend once said to me "I can tell you anything" and I was really pleased. They continued "....because you've messed up really badly loads of times so you won't judge" ha ha ha

Perhaps she could have worded it "because you have a breadth of experience" - sounds a bit better doesn't it?:lol:

ha ha ha - yeah that's a better wording:) - funnily enough I've never complimented her on her tact :)

I know the feeling pistachio. My friend once told me with a voice like mine I should be in the charts, unfortunately following it by saying she'd heard the Sex Pistols were looking for a female vocalist. Sadly she's not wrong though, my singing would embarrass a raven.

Years ago when I lived in France, a very good male friend told me I was "the incarnation of the word 'feminine'", which was lovely....

more recent compliments have been from my 2 teenage daughters (see associated angsty thread): 1 said on Saturday that she liked spending time with me and the other said yesterday to the dentist that she liked me even though she was 13!! :D

What a beautiful thread... made me smile so much, which with a bad cold and after a morning stuck in traffic with a poorly cat going to see the vet, was quite an achievement!!

Here are a few things I've been told, which I treasure, from the kids first :

- (on apologising to the kids for a birthday cake I'd made looking not as professional as in the picture in the book) : 'you must be joking, it's great, no other mum at school could do anything as good' (a lot of the mums could and do, but I still loved it)

- you are the bestest mama in the whole wide world (a regular one, and my favourite)

from OH :

- you are a miracle (long time ago after I'd manage to calm two cranky toddlers at night without taking them into our bed)

from friends :

- you are just perfect

- your presence in my life is like soothing cool rain at the end of a really hot day

and one final one, from DD2:

- you are the grossest mama in the whold wide world, from all times past, all times present, all times to come, and from all species :lol: (all I did was tell a slightly sickly 'halloween' ghoul type joke involving eyeballs 8) )... not meant as a compliment, but somehow it always makes me laugh my heart out, just thinking about it...

Enjoy your compliments everyone :) they might sometimes sound exaggerated or not fully justified or slightly too biased, but they always have truth in them too.
