Cheap ski gear for DD

Recommended Posts

My DD is going skiing with school early next year. Due to the cost this is likely to be a one off but we will now have to allow DS1 and DS2 to go when they get the chance the year after and a couple of years after that.

DD will need some ski gear (jacket, trousers, gloves). Does anyone know where I can get some at a reasonable price? I want unisex stuff so that it can be passed down to the boys.

I don't do ebay or freecycle (too many bad experiences). Neither do I normally go to shops so I would like to know that I can get what I want somewhere before I set out.

Thanks :)

I got my ski jacket from TK Maxx + it was really good, lots of pockets with big zips so you can open with with your gloves still on  They sell salopettes, goggle + gloves aswell :)

Navy blue and silver, or black and silver would be good, and they can both use it then, being unisex.

School gave us a brochure when we went and we could hire or buy everything them, and they delivered it all to school in one big order so we didn't have to pay P&P - might be worth asking other friends if you can share the costs?

Tk Maxx & also Matalan, that's where I kitted mine out. They have seen mine through 2 children but unfortunately the last looks like he might be too big to fit it :( 1 thing that I would be aware of though is that my 2 went to Austria and it was too warm to ski in the lovely warm jacket I bought both times. My ES wore a t shirt, sometimes a sweatshirt and DD wore a hoodie! Neither wore the jacket so maybe depending on where they are going, don't spend much on a jacket.

My daughter is soon to start work at a ski resort in the French Alps. part of her year off before going to Uni. She has been advised by those who have been before, not to bother with a big ski jacket as too hot, but to have a gilet instead. We got her one from The North Face outlet store at Bicester Outlet Village. Probably paid more than I would normally (she wanted trendy as well as practical )but she will be there working for 6 months. Other outlet stores at the same Village had trousers and gloves etc at quite reasonable prices.

We went skiing for the first time as a family 2 years ago and I kitted us all out cheaply from Matalan, TK Maxx, Aldi and Lidl. My boys both had ski suits (jackets and trousers with braces) which cost about £15 from Aldi - they both got 2 years wear out of them. I also got cheap gloves, socks, thermals and ski goggles from these various places.

Muddy Puddles has a good website that sells ski gear in smaller sizes (although it may be too young for your dd). Their thermal snow boots are very good.

Make sure she has good sunglasses or goggles as I was amazed how bright it was and couldn't leave our accommodation without them on. Those neck tubes are also amazing for keeping you warm. She will need waterproof footwear - the first time we went I wore my ordinary leather hiking boots and they got soaked through very quickly.

I'm sure she'll have a fantastic time - I wish I'd learned when I was young and flexible, you don't bounce as easily when you're mid-thirties!
