Mystery weekend away! UPDATED!

Recommended Posts

Well, tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock I am being whisked away by OH for a mystery weekend to celebrate my birthday :D (it is quite a big one...I'll give you a clue there is a 5 in the number and you can divide it by 10  ). I have no idea where or what it is. I have been told to pack comfortable shoes to walk in (but not walking boots) and something smart to go out for a meal. OH doesn't do big romantic gestures as a rule so I don't know whether to be excited or trepidacious :? !

Well, girls and boys, I'm back...and the answer to the mystery was...PARIS!!!

It was great...although I had considered it in my list of possible things he might be planning, it was fairly low on the list. He didn't tell me where we were going until we got to the airport, luckily he had guided my packing so I was fairly well equipped, but I should have taken his advice to take comfortable shoes for walking a bit more seriously...am today suffering from "museum-foot":lol:

He took me to a quaint little hotel right by the Arc de Triomphe...which we could see from the hotel balcony. One of those lovely old-fashioned hotels with heavy french furniture but no internet access :( so sorry you have had to wait until now for the update  .

Friday evening we strolled along the Seine to the Eiffel Tower to see it lit up like a christmas tree...a great spectacle and OH spent ages trying to get a good photo. The queues to go up it were still enormous and the hawkers trying to sell plastic Eiffel Towers were getting on our nerves so we went to find somewhere to eat.

Saturday was my big birthday so we had a full on day of sightseeing! Being next to the Arc de Triomphe meant we 'only' had to stroll down the Champs Elysees to the Louvre to see the Mona Lisa, which we did on Saturday...I had never seen her before despite having been to Paris a fair few times before. I was surprised how small she is and that she was not holding a chicken and wearing a red hat as I had been lead to believe by someone on the Omlet forum :lol: We then attempted to look at a couple more of the collections before our feet gave out and we made the final push to get back to the hotel. Stopping at a cafe on the Champs Elysees to rest our weary feet and unload OH's wallet of all those euros that were weighing him down in order to buy a small cup of hot chocolate each.:lol::roll: Only managed to stagger to he bistro across the road for dinner but it was great. We toyed with the idea of champagne to celebrate the big day but the prices were eye-watering so plumped for a nice cote du rhone instead!

Sunday was a lovely sunny day and we climbed up to the top of the Arc de Triomphe to survey Paris in the sunshine, before heading back to blighty after a croque monsieur at a nearby cafe.

Got home to find lots of lovely pressies and flowers waiting for me!

It was a magical weekend and OH has probably earned almost enough brownie points to compensate for him having gone to Canada for two weeks without me at the start of September  .
