Help with a troublesome cough

Recommended Posts

I'm not a doctor but do suffer with asthma, just out of curiosity is she taking the inhaler through a spacer? I never take mine without as it hurts my throat and I can't get the timing right anyway. I've found that I get more or less the proper dose with the spacer too. Hope this helps and hope she gets better soon xxx

I was up with DS at 4 am as he has a really nasty dry tickly cough. I have also spent a fortune in Boots today and bought the Benylin Night thing so, after reading these posts, i am hopeful for a better night.

Hope everyone else who is suffering feels better soon.

Yes,it is blue.

Today it is much colder & 'the cough' is back with a vengence

She has an appointment with the Doctor tomorrow, but I can't help thinking that its a waste of time & that she will be told just to sit it out :?

I hate wasting a Doctors time............................

She has a day off on Friday,so I am hoping that the rest will help.Poor thing is as pale as can be,but at least she (& I) have got some sleep over the last couple of days :)

My son has started coughing and I think its the central heating dries the air. Dont worry re wasting Drs time. He may give her a preventer inhaler to take too which dampens down infalmmation in airways. Lots of clear fluids are good - avoid milky stuff and dairy as make more mucus which irritates cough. |Juice water squash etc are good. Poor love and poor you - sleep deprivation is horrid. Keep us posted. My two need inhalers when they get colds but arent actually labelled asthmatic. Your daughter may need one just till shes better.

Sorry spellings bad typing fast

Back from the Docs again with a second lot of antibiotics, a brown inhaler & a spacer, plus a possible diagnosis of Whooping Cough

She has been signed off college & work until Monday,& is going to be taking it very easy.

Its the Muse gig next Thursday & I am very uncertain about it myself, although it is seated. She is staying with a friend in London & I am sure they won't thank her for hacking away all night :lol:

Aww, poor Devon. Hope she gets better soon. Whopping cough is not fun, my Mum apparently had it when she was a child and her mother sat patiently by her bed knitting dolls clothes for her-something she hated!

I think this hacking cough is rumbling around a lot. Loads of kids off school with it. My son's best friend has been barking for over 3 weeks now, gone back to school this week, but he sounds awful.

My daughter#2 had it for 2 weeks - just barking cough all day, and tired when walking. But no other symptoms. Finally gone a few days ago.

Husband still has it after 2 weeks and doctor today told him he definately doesn't have flu, but perhaps has a chest infection. He is feeling slightly better so hopefully on the mend but he is still barking with this cough all day long (sounds awful). But hopefully some rest and he will kick it.

We've all had a hacking cough, picked up at work, for nearly a month. To make matters worse, I now have tonsillitis. :? On my second lot of antibiotics in a fortnight.

There is a lot of it about, and it takes some shaking off.

I hope your daughter feels better Cinnamon.

I've just got over a cold and found relief with, of all things, chewing gum

I hate gum, but happened to walk past packets of airwaves gum in the supermarket. Brilliant stuff, I could breathe properly, and when the cold went and left me with the persistant cough which it always does, the gum helped me breathe correctly through my nose, and lubricated my throat throughout the day to such a degree that I didn't have a bark in the evenings :D

I still have an intermittent bark but nothing like I usually get :D
