Serious Accident by Our House

Recommended Posts

We were woken up at around 6-45 by a very loud bang. On further investigation we found a crane lorry tipped on it's side and part stuck on a wall and a car completely crushed underneath it :(:(:( Shortly after there were police and fireman everywhere, 4 fire engines. It took ambulance at least 30 mins to get here and an air ambulance has only just landed about 15 mins ago which has blocked us in. It doesn't look good for either driver :(:(

It isn't known as a blackspot Clare but is on a fairly steep hill on a bend. I've now been interviewed by the local evening paper. Lots of the villagers are out taking pics etc and you can now really see the impact of the accident as the fire crews and ambulance have gone. One of the other villagers i spoke to has lived here for 30 years and never seen anything as bad. I also spoke to one of the firecrew who said they think the road will be closed for most of the day. There is also oil and diesel on the road form the lorry making the road like an ice rink.

Adam and Simon managed to leave for school and work after the air ambulance left, i just hope i can get out ok later to collect Adam.

Both drivers are ok. The car driver was very lucky as his car also caught fire :o One of my neighbours helped put the car out. The peeople who live in the house had a very narrow escape to. The woman was in the shower above the porch when it happend :o

I've been interviwed by local radio and tv now. Have had to make lots of tea for police etc and have been feeding them left over trick or treat chocolate to. The police think the road will be closed until at least 3-30. Residents are able to use the road with care.

DS did go to school he was just late. I'd already phoned the school and spoken to the Head. He did have a pretty good reason for being late though!

I'm hoping i won't be on the news later as i hadn't even brushed my hair or anything! The girls didn't think much to the air ambulance.

You were talking about the lady in the bathroom above the porch, when my DD was about 2 she liked to collect anything that came through our letterbox. I opened the porch door for her to collect the paper and we had literally just closed the door when there was an almighty bang. I couldn't open the door up to see what had happened. When I looked out of the window there was a car crashed into the porch and my front garden (which was literally about 4 foot long).

I can't tell you how shocked I was and relieved that we had got the newspaper when we did. It took them ages to get the car out and my door open. It was one of my neighbours, we had no drives and she was trying to get into a space. Realised she wasn't close enough, so whilst just leaning in her automatic car, with the car door open, she hit the accelerator too hard. She was ok but I doubt we've both ever forgotten it.

Gosh ClaireG What a shock, son and I were there yesterday delivering our landrover to Rockingham Landrover, we should have been collected it about now but when we phoned they said they had not been able to do the work as no parts could get in or out.

How frightening to be woken by that.

Hope the drivers are ok, I am sure the emergency services will appreciate the tea and chocolate.

Hope you collected Adam ok.

You must live very close to the Landrover people unless I have got my bearings wrong looking at the photos.

Chrissie

Hope all is well, what is your local BBC region Claire, I might tune in to your local news instead of Wales today.

It was Look East that interviewed me. We get east midlands today though. There is a short clip here of the man whose house it went into

It's still shut at the moment Chrissie although everything seems to have been done that needs to be done. We've only been here since May so havn't met that many neighbours - until today. I bet i know what the topic of conversation at the village bonfire party on Thurs is going to be.

It could have been so so much worse. If they hadn't have put the car fire out so quickly as well as the complications for the car driver, half the village could have gone up being thatch.
