Alis girls
Well - I've just finished doing mine this week after major whining from YS about how deprived he is cos mum is not organised blah blah. I have gone overboard and OH;s face when I deposited 2 straw squirrels in the fireplace which I got in Wyevales sale last yr was a picture All in the best possible taste you understand. Alas our nativity set has gone AWOL. - suspect Mary, Joe and co have gone abroad for better weather I am a bit sad as I got them when ES was born 14 yrs ago from church. I took great pride in setting them out each yr and when ES was 18 months I came in to findThomas the tank engine slap bang in the middle of the stable poor ES has never been allowed to live this down. Rhapsody
I sympathise NCY, I am in the middle of a tremendous sulk because my glitterball baubles and very expensive glass icicles have gone missing, I'm refusing to decorate the tree until they are found and am doing this I also have a hangover you could sell to science which is not helping.. Alis girls
Well I hope you find them soon, nothing worse than missing decs to make you unsettled. i want to look in my chest (wooden one) to see if I stowed \Mary and co in there but the house is full of teenagers and I can't bear to go near them because of the noise I am almost OCD about Christmas decs but not as bad as a friend who has a theme every yr. So far cat hasnt noticed the squirrels and nor have the teenagers (unless of course they have and I find them decatpitated later when they have all gone home ) Anyway I hope you can find them. bigmommasally
Well I'm glad I'm not the only one having traumas and tantrums over the christmas decs. My problem is the Christmas Lights. We tested them all earlier in the week and not one set worked properly so after work last night I went to several different places but everywhere had sold out OH finally managed to get one set for the tree and one set for outside , got them both home and boths sets were faulty He took them back this morning and couldn't get replacements I had a major tantrum! (Yes I know very childish and not helpful) So stormed out on a mission to get some. 5 garden centres, 2 hours and 40 mile round tip later I had finally got 2 sets You should have seen me wandering around the garden centre hugging them to me in case someone try to steal them from my arms Got home - the outside set are up and look great. Not happy with the tree set though (and yes call me fussy - everybody else has and does ) because the wire is white and shows up really badly against the green tree. OH and DD2 tried to reassure me that once all the tinsel and baubles were on it would be fine but everything's on now and all I can see when I look at the tree is the white wire And please don't anyone tell me its only christmas lights and doesn't matter much in the grand scheme of things - I know all that but I'm still sulking
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
BMS you silly billy! All the emoticons made me giggle. I'd sulk too though, mind! Got to have some fairy light twinkle! Glad you have some finally! It ain't Chirsmtas without a stocking and a twinkle!
Christian
What is it with Christmas lights being faulty? I bought 3 sets for the kitchen and all of them had dodgy bulbs All up and twinkling now. Well, not twinkling and I am not too keen on that. OCD? Possibly. Looney
Hello All, I put my decs up yesterday We're not having a big tree this year as don't have much space and think it is unfair on Bogwoppit (now 20 months old) to put so much temptation in his way and then forever tell him to keep away! So we have a tiny tree that is about 30cm tall on the sideboard and then I have strung 70 baubles and tree decorations (I've counted them! ) around the top edges of the walls.....and it looks a bit random, but fab! Haven't put the lights up yet, but they'll get strung up somewhere....if I can find some space! Yay! Feeling festive now
Sunshine
Well we finally put our tree up this evening. Me and my little sister did it(only because we are the fussy ones). Its red and gold like always. We have put it in our entrance hall this year though as the dog isn't allowed in there unsupervised, we had visons of her eating the tree, lights and baubles if we have put it in our lounge! Cinnamon
All up and twinkling now. Well, not twinkling and I am not too keen on that. OCD? Possibly. Possibly I don't like flashing lights either. Lights have to be warm white, static & tiny in my house Tree is now up, & all my pretty little lights are up inside & outside too
Valkyrie
Love colour, but don't like flashing. Tree is a compromise - flashing and static because OH likes the random twinkling - I don't like it all going dark when they all decide to turn off at the same time, so must have the static ones to keep going when that happens. Colour up the stairs but white lights on the mantlepiece. Still not done yet. Need a proper mantlepiece too - our had woodworm in the reclaimed oak so getting a new one from here: http://www.oakbeamuk.com/contact.html Match our doors (not quite the same as Christians though - which I much prefer, but toooooo late now). Plus it's a lot easier to drape a garland on a proper ledge and not the bare brick we have at the moment (although it does hide the awfulness). Cinnamon
What is it with twinkling lights which makes them just not twinkle, but just all flash on & off? That really bugs me.If there was a true random twinkle,it would look lovely, but they always look so uniform
Valkyrie
The fast ones really irritate me. I prefer the slow option - but my goodness have you felt the heat from when they are on for a long time? Decided it was better to have those moving because the heat from the static ones is much cooler.
Alis girls
Mary and co are no where to be found and its bugging me. Turned understair cupboard inside out but they were not hidden in there I am like a woman possessed - me and BMS should get together - OCD re Xmas decs - sad very sad
Valkyrie
When you find it can you see if there's a grey winter coat in there - mum lost hers somewhere (now you'd think that would show up - and now she's got a new coat it still hasn't turned up)! Rhapsody
hello again! well the decs turned up they were in the bottom of the box of old stuff for some random reason, I have apologised to OH for chasing him up the loft ladder repeatedly and this year we have just silver and glass with LED lights in blue and a horrified white owl at the top, chosen by my 17 yo son who has his mother's warped sense of humour. He wants to see how many visitors notice..
Christian
Tree is bought and sat in a bucket of water in the garden. Haven't decided on a name yet. Maybe Rita? Not sure. Have to name my tree. Matilda is a pot grown and too big to bring in now. Plus I am sure there are slugs living in her pot Will spend Thursday decorating the house, when back from work
Cinnamon
My eldest spent hours at the weekend making an Angel with Sigmund Freud's face, for the top of the tree in her Psychology class
Alis girls
Probably "Ooops, word censored!"ody will notice owl as no ones noticed squirrels in my fireplace. very Harry Potter an owl.
bigmommasally
I want to see pictures please of horrified owl and Sigmund Freud angel they sound cool. Nochucksyet: Mary & co must be somewhere - we need to all put our heads together and think logically for you and then you must look in the exact opposite place Have you looked in the bottom of the ironing basket where all the clothes from last winter and that silk top that you can't face ironing are still languishing? Rhapsody
I love the idea of Angel Freud I'll post up a pic of the owl, it looks lie it was knitted by someone whose medication needed changing
craftyhunnypie
I helped my sister put all her decorations today. It was very exciting. My baby nephew loved all the sparkly baubles & lights. Her Inglenook fireplace looked stunning - a real Santa grotto when we'd finished. I have my cards & tree up on the wall. I've gone for the victorian Xmas look. Hubby came home with a £1 shop one today & some baubles. We have that on the table . It's white with red baubles & for the cat apparently....to stop her playing with our posh tree! The cat has her own stocking too! Emma.x
bluekarin
What is it with twinkling lights which makes them just not twinkle, but just all flash on & off? That really bugs me.If there was a true random twinkle,it would look lovely, but they always look so uniform Thats my bug bear with supposed twinkling lights. They should be called flashing as that is what they do grrr. I bought some new led lights (may have read about it on FB) but they are BRIGHT WHITE static lights. I almost went blind round the edges of my vision as they were that bright when putting them on the tree. I need to paint them, but there are 160 of the things may take a while. Back to decorations. I was going to put mine up on 19th/20th as the kids break up on 18th. But after hearing everyone else talking about their lovely tree up and how beautiful it looks, I put ours up Saturday just gone. I did the lights (twinkling pretty ones round the middle so the twinkling isn't soo in your face) and said leds round the ends of the branches. Then the kids helped put the decorations on. I haven't for the first time ever, not put any tinsel on it. I am after some of the lammas stuff, but yet found any that isn't crinkled. I have put some fairy lights (on static) around the kitchen, including across the window, and round the window panel next to the front door, and a bit of tinsel across the wall mounted utensil holder and round the clock. Just need a wreath for the front door, the kids to do their rooms with all the tinsel and paper chains that are left and then we are done. Lesley
Lauren and Jake helped put the baubles on the tree in the porch at the weekend..... We've added some smaller baubles since.....and the puppy 'investigated the lower string of lights The baubles are gold but are reflecting the sky at dusk. We have cards hanging inside but I won't do the table decorations and greenery until a couple of days before......or Christmas Eve probably. We also have two real trees that were planted in strategic places in the garden so that we can see them from the lounge - they have white static lights on.
