A chickychickychick-ENN!!
I see there's a jazz up your avatar festive-style thread and everyone's jumped right in. So own up - who's got the festive house decorations up already? What's your theme? How do you do your tree? What are your decor traditions? Have you got pics? Do tell! Chickvic
Mine was up Friday Admittedly that is earlier than usual but DH is working and I can't get all the lights on the tree on my own The tree is always up for the 1st because if you can open an advent calendar you can have the tree up I'll take some photos tomorrow and show you the tree. It doesn't have a theme unless you count anything and everything I also have lots of lights in the living room
Chook n Boo Mum
I married a "humbug-meister", who's birthday happens to be on the 8th.....I've always kept his birthday free of decorations at home until after then, so in theory we put our tree up the weekend after the children break up from school..............we break up around the 10th/11th not 22nd/23rd He will not be at all impressed when I go & put some of the decs and the tree up at work tomorrow.........well the first Christmas party is on Wednesday & you can't have a Christmas party without a Christmas tree can you Shall I try & get a pic of that to keep in the spirit of the thread Sha x
bluekarin
My tree and other decorations will NOT be going up until the kids break up from school, which is on 18th Dec this year (Heck! Better get the Xmas shopping done!) In previous years when we've gone away oop North to stay with rellies, then the tree has gone up earlier, otherwise we just wouldn't see it all lit up and looking purty. I try to do a sort of theme (red, white, silvery) but other bits and bobs always end up on there as well. I am thinking, for the first time ever, not to put tinsel on the tree Maybe getting some lammas (? is that the name for the long shimmery strands of tinsel like stuff?) I have lots of fairy lights - 3 for the tree (might have to sneakily buy some that are on green wire as the ones I have now are on white and they stick out like a sore thumb) 1 hallway and 1 for round the living room mirror. But, if I get new tree ones, that will mean I can have some more in the kitchen I already have a string of star lights for the kitchen window. I have bought some woven stars which I will hang up on the doors with bits of holly and other festive stuff attached. And a wreath off the market for the front door. One day, I might get some tasteful lights for the front garden to go up the tree
BeckyBoo
Ours is up!! The whole flippin lot!! Usually wait until the 1st but couldn't face the chaos on a school night so I got most of it done whilst they were out with their Dad and they did the baubles etc on the tree when they came back. No theme, just TONS of stuff! I think it looks lovely - course give it a week of needles and dust and I'll be desperate to get them down BeckyBo
Cinnamon
Not me! I am a traditionalist - my tree goes up 12 days before Christmas & comes down 12 days after. Sorry, but its the only way I like it - its just wrong otherwise We have a pale gold, copper & white lights theme, which works well in my house
Ain't Nobody Here
I'm a bit of a bah humbug . Ours won't be going up for ages . No theme here, just the same old tree with the same old decorations .
patsylabrador
Hello. I LOVE CHRISTMAS! We usually put up decs the first week of December.I go for the Santa's workshop sort of look, so have wooden toys, straw things, stockings, lots of greenery and candles. My house is predominately green and red anyway so it doesn't take much to make it look christmassy. Then I sit back with some mulled wine and it's lovely. Griffin
Me and my girls are going to buy our tree on Friday after school We always have a real tree and because I have four daughters most of the decorations are pink. The tree will be decorated in pink, silver and white with a few random animals, mostly birds but we also have a hedgehog and a squirrel. Willow
Advent sees various candle and greenery arrangements appearing and the boys advent calendars including 2 hanging one with pockets for sweets my sister made for them. I get 2 real Christmas trees, one for the sitting room and one for kitchen/dining area. Sittting room tree gets the decorations collected over the years from various countries so it's a bit random with mostly Danish (Georg Jensen) and German painted decs but also misc extras like waterford crystal from Ireland, elephants from India, pandas from China, Vietnamese lady. Last week I picked up a blue & white delft style windmill and santa from Holland Other tree has had a food theme (cookies, sweets, cinnamon stick bundles) but also gets some of the overflow decs from the main tree. DH is a bit bah humburg so they won't go up until the 12th this year and he doesn't like too much else in the way of decoration. (Our new hearth and mantle doesn't get fitted until the 10th). I must check my tree lights, by the time we put up the tree it's usually too late to replace them so we end up with lots of short lengths and multiple plugs. Every year we have a debate about where to buy - I like going to Christmas Common as it just seems right DH and the kids want to go to the closest garden centre however they haven't treated our neighbours (who were running a business on the site for them) very well so I might get my way this year
Seagazer
YS's birthday is also the 8th so we don't usually put them up until after that. We're going to do it during the week after his birthday as we have all of OH's relatives coming for a christmas get together. We're all of skating at Canary Wharf and then back here for food, chat and lots of wine For the last couple of years I've been doing the front room tree in gold, silver and red. I have some really, really nice decorations so will keep doing the same until they all fall to pieces. The kids decorate the tree in the dining room with the ornaments they have collected over the years. We went on Saturday for YS to get his new one and ES came along as well. It was so nice. chickencam
Our's will go up in a week or so, maybe next weekend, but most likely the weekend after. It depends whether or not we get a real tree, they will be later if it is real to reduce needle mess I see Christmas has arrived on the forum over the weekend
Old Speckled Hen
Other tree has had a food theme (cookies, sweets, cinnamon stick bundles) but also gets some of the overflow decs from the main tree. What a wonderful idea I have an as yet unopened black artificial tree that I got in the Jan sales. This is destined for the kitchen so I'm going to steal your idea and get foody decorations The real tree is coming from Christmastreeland on the 14th and will have just white LEDs (lots) and even more of these They reflect the lights and twinkle wonderfully with the room lights off

Charlottechicken
I've put my outdoor static icicle lights up tonight, for automatic switch on (courtesy of a timer) tomorrow They are very nice, not tacky, I have them hanging off the guttering above the bay window, I believe they use around £2 worth of electric for the six weeks or so they are up (6am to 8am then 3pm till 10pm). The wreath is on the front door but the tree won't go up till Yule or Christmas Eve.
