CluckyBucks
Im getting my first wisdom tooth and its growing perfectly straight, but when i wobble by jaw about it really hurts. The answer- dont wobble my jaw. But it really hurts, ive taken a cocodomol and it hasnt helped and i really dont want it removing What can i do to ease the pain? how long will it be like this for? Katy
Try teething gel or a mouth ulcer treatment that numbs along with the pain killers. Mine have been giving me grief on and off for years, but like you I really (really!) don't want them removed.
Guest
I'm 39 and mine still haven't come through completely and I still get aches now and again when they decide to what i can only assume, have a growth spurt. Best thing to do to avoid problems in the future is to get an x ray done by the dentist to make sure there are no problems. try a hot water bottle, wrapped in a towel and hold it against your cheek or lay your head on it. Griffin
Yep, use a hot water bottle. One of my teeth put me through hell a few months ago. The kids have got microwaveable teddies, my favourite was a dinosaur and I used to hold that to my face If the pain gets really bad take a trip to the dentists for an xray. My wisdom teeth are what is known as 'partially erupted' because my jaw isn't big enough so I know how much it can hurt.
Egluntyne
I'd suggest that you pay a visit to your dentist if this happens on a regular basis.
Guest
....My wisdom teeth are what is known as 'partially erupted' because my jaw isn't big enough so I know how much it can hurt. I have Marfan Syndrome and one of the symptoms is that I have (or had) crowded teeth. i had to have 4 adult teeth removed to make room for the others. Has your dentist suggested the same to make room for your wisdom teeth?
CluckyBucks
I have plenty of space and only three parts of the tooth have come through so far, i think i will try the hot water bottle trick thankyou everybody and i shall also have an x-ray xx xx
The Dogmother
I know just how you feel - mine were impacted so I had them all removed over 20 years ago. Total bliss to be rid of the pain. If you're getting a lot of pain from them, I'd suggest visiting the dentist so that they can do an Xray and check they are growing through straight. poachedegg
OH had one of his wisdom teeth out last week as it was growing into his jaw and had grown an abcess. ...he was in an immense amount of pain.....having it out was quite painful too, but he says no where as near as before - so my advice would definitely get it checked out at the dentisr. Why do they still insist on trying to grow, I'm 31 for goodness sake!
Sunshine
I'm 20 and mine are partially erupted. The dentist said mine won't grow any more because there is no room. She also said that i shouldn't have to have them taken out as long as i keep them clean. Apparantly a lot of people have problems because they are not cleaned properly. I would get it checked out though.

In 1976 I had a spontaneous pneumothorax, not had any other symptoms since. Well apart from a 33" inside leg..........
Chicken Licken
I only had upper ones - I had them taken out this time last year - what a massive improvement - my mouth is comfy and I can actually clean the teeth that are left! I had put off having them out for about 5 years - In hindsight I should have had them out ages ago!!!
craftyhunnypie
Clove oil from Boots. Nasty things wisdom teeth. Emma.x
Rhapsody
Please dont add heat to the problem! Heat increases blood flow and will make any swelling around the tooth worse. Clove oil and medicated mouthwash around the area is much better, and ibuprofen will bring the inflammation down. You just have to ride it out as best you can really.. The Dogmother
Some people (lucky things!) never get any wisdom teeth, some have them and they are fine, others come through crooked or impacted and need to be removed, some come through hollow or rotten and again, need to be removed. Luck of the draw really.

Chucky Mama
Hope that you are feeling better now cluckybucks. I had the most awful tooth pain last year that turned out to be an abcess (dentist missed it despite 3 visits ) - the pain was indescribable (sp?) - more painful that childbirth I really hope you are getting some respite with your wisdom teeth, you have my sympathy.
