The last of Wogan

Recommended Posts

i heard bits of wogan this morning and think i will be doing listen again sometime over the weekend.

I am in my thirties and have to say I listened to wogan by choice and enjoyed it. However, he is part of my upbring. My mum used to listen to him and I would be forced to as I was growing up. Funny how things change!! His choice of music was his personal choice i beleive and have to say although it was not cheery I really liked it - my cup of tea...

I used to get ready for school listening to Tel. Then when I was at work it was all forgotten. Found him again on the school run - the Janet and John stories used to crack me up. Haven't listened for a while, but all good things come to an end eventually - and as others have said he's not everybody's cup of tea, so perhaps Master Evans will be OK. Have listened to him in the evening (usually when waiting as a taxi service for my brood) and he's OK - ish. At the moment my car radio is tuned in to Eagle, Heart, Kestrel, Radio's 1 and 2 (not keen on 1 though) and Classical. I tend to hop when I hear inane chatter by the DJ's in the hope of finding something to singalong to. I gather Tel is doing another slot at a later time.

Those of you who do not worship at the feet of the great Togmeister are philistines. He is (was ) the only sane thing left in this once great country of ours. Today was one of the saddest days this country has ever seen, and I cannot believe that I will never listen to a Janet and John story again. My Wake up to Wogan driving-in sessions to work were the only thing that made it possible to actually go in to work, and made me realise that the Tog world is what is actually real, and sane, and that the perculiar PC, plastic, target-driven world that I work in is not reality.

If you didn't 'get' the great 'Tel', then you have missed out big style in your life.

I also love Chris Evans on the drive home, only because of his irrepressable high spirits - you just can't be down, however bad life is, listening to Chris. This country needs more positive people like him. When he was on telly I though the was a complete prat, but after drying out and growing up, he is actually very entertaining - give him a chance Togs.

The only problem now is that the only alternative in the mornings, the irreverent Tony Livesey on Radio Lancashire is also giving up his breakfast show. Very depressing. And I just don't feel any affinity with Simon Mayo on the drive home, he is too wishy washy for me, and just not funny. I am a little worried that Chris may be just a bit too perky for the drive in that early in the morning.

I guess it is Classic FM both ways then.

I shed a tear in in the car this morning on the way to work. Grown up with Sir Tel as mum & dad always had him on. Carried on all the way through uni (very uncool). Weekday mornings will not be the same anymore :( . Loved the song Ken Bruce played, going to see if it can be downloaded. :D

I absolutely think it was the right thing for Sir Tel to do but I am also so sad that he he has gone..how he got away with what he did on his morning show is a mystery to me. (Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand were almost hung drawn and quartered for less!) but he did and it always made me smile, because it was done with good humour and at no one's expense except their own. Basically on a regular basis Tel's morning show thumbed its nose at the BBC and got away with it I shall miss him, (and deadly) a lot.....truly the end of an era :(

Tony 'I edited the Daily Sport for Umpteen Years' Livesey? There's a word for men like him, and it's not suitable for a chicken forum.:evil::evil:

Oooooh! I think he has changed and mellowed and seen the error of his ways since then Chicky chick chickENN! He even swam across Fleetwood boating pool in winter for charity (or penance?) But I agree with your point.

Sparky's Mum, not sure what being an 'official' Tog is exactly, but if it is being in the right age bracket and a grumpy old woman and a desire to stand up for common sense and have fun doing it, then yes, I suppose I am!

I like Terry, but refused to listen to him on the grounds that my parents did when I was a child,& it made me feel middle aged.

He had to go sometime & I think that now is the right time.

I like Chris Evans a lot, & listened to him on R1 & Virgin in the mornings.

I think he will be a lot mellower than people think - he has grown up a lot in the past few years.

I may even tune out from my beloved Absolute radio & give him a go!
