So many crafts..

Recommended Posts

..so little time.

I've always wanted to 'make stuff' lol. But, I would just yearn about it, and then get on quietly with life. Having children and being a stay at home parent means that I now have time to learn new things. Suddenly, a VAST array of crafts are calling me, almost taunting me. Sewing, baking, ceramics, fabric painting, kniting, crochet, quilting, Jewellery making, felting... the list grows daily, almost hourly actually

I am never going to learn them all. So, my question, How on earth do you choose which ones to try?

What crafts do YOU do, and would your recommend them for me to learn?

 Oh I so know the feeling! I have dabbled with many crafts, then moved onto something else. I have loads of UFOs in the loft, even more unstarted ones in my head! A lot of my crafts went by the wayside because they end up cluttering the house! Once everyone has had one as a gift, it just ends up as clutter  So my advice is - have a go at everything! 8)

Me too - Time and Money stops me doing so much. :)

I spent years doing cross stitch, then moved on to card making, then last year (thanks to Plum) I discovered patchwork, most recently I have made wine glass charms and lip balms. I have some merino wool tops waiting to be felted, some angel hair to melt? (got that at FoQ on impulse  ) and would love to have a go at jewellery making. Oh and I'd love to try my hand on a potters wheel

OH spends his life  at me - I'm lucky he is so easy going.

Melting angel hair? Tell me more :D

Its actually called Angelina Fibre and I believe you lay it out thinly between 2 sheets of paper and melt it with a warm iron and you get a lovely sheer sparkly fabric. Well it looked good in the demo that I saw at the FoQ

:D

Thats what I was looking for before Christmas! I wanted to make a star garland with iridescent stars sewn onto sheer ribbon. The only name I got for it was Magic Fiber and there was only one stockist I could find - and she ran out of it :( Thank you for mentioning it. I shall get some asap and (try to) make the stars before Christmas :D

Find a THING that you want to make, then do it. I wait til I'm besotted with the idea of a thing rather than a method most times, and that way I can flit happily between whatever craft is necessary to make the things. Apart from pottery, which I do because I like its smooth gunkiness. :D

ps: sign up to: whipup.net - a smorgasbord of crafty ideas awaits!

What about trying doughcraft?

Just google 'salt dough' or 'doughcraft' for ideas. The beauty of this is there is little or no cost as you only need flour, salt and water to make the dough (although finding salt may be a bit tricky at the moment  ) and paint and varnish to finish off, which you may have already.

But keep the dough and finished articles well away from hounds with stealing tendencies..the quantity of salt is fatal  ..........needless to say we do not have saltdough in our house :anxious:
