It's not just the stress when shopping with teenagers it's all the extras that appear at the checkout, expensive shampoo and shower gels to mention just two.

 

 

Thats what my OH does. It pushes up the bill no end!!

 

I also now shop without him!

Just out of interest have any men commented on this? Its soemtimes diffcult to tell whether someone is M or F on forum as we've got made up names. Surprised the \major hasnt been on this thread stick up for men's rights

 

But you haven't tried to take my rights away. All anyone's done on this thread is bundle up a few niggles with their respective other halves and tenuously present them as being chromosome related. The gripes may well be entirely valid, although I'll admit it seems to me that the despair is being scattered rather indiscriminately. It's certainly not the first thread that's tried to suggest I'm guilty of all the faults mentioned just because I was born more untidily built at waist height than the majority on this forum, but if it makes you all feel better.....

 

I won't suggest that men don't need to do likewise, because that'd be a bit of a generalisation too. All I'll say is that I don't personally feel the need to list all my wife's shortcomings and accuse the lot of you of complicity.

Au contraire - my OH loves to moan about me - he could fill this thread alone - its just the supermarket male wanderer with trolley is a bug bare. Sainsburys must be full of lonesome women looking for other halves and gnashing their teeth. Otherwise my OH is lovely - he makes me laugh and is a lovely dad, just has to wander :whistle:

I've often thought shopping centers should have a men's crèche full of meccanno, lego and computer games or similar, then you should be able to find them.

You'd be able to find them, but you wouldn't be able to get them to go home!

 

When I do manage to prize DH away from his lathe and welding gear in the garage, he constantly encourages me to buy clothes that are too tight and designed for 18 year olds not 52 year olds! I don't expect that he comes shopping very often, and to be fair, I also accompany him to tool fairs, and welding or metalworking demonstrations and often attend farm auctions with him to bid for items of interest when there are two auctioneers going.

 

The last tool fair we attended I bought myself a cordless drill and he didn't buy anything!

I have heard the pub in Bluewater be referred to as 'The Husband Creche'.

 

A woman in B&Q made me laugh yesterday -she was stomping up the middle of the store muttering 'NOW where the hell is he?'. I know just how she felt!

mmm, I think I'd rather be in the creche than doing the shopping, I've never been a fan of shopping though nowadays I do like internet shopping

I'm with the Major on this one, I don't think it is gender specific, more down to the individual which could be male or female. My OH is a sweetie and would never do that.

 

On the other hand he invariably gets out of the car and spend several minutes examining an imagined scratch, or kicks the tyres, or picks fluff off the upholstery, during which time it is me that has wandered off into the supermarket leaving him to talk to himself........

Speaking personally if I didnt deal with generalisations about my gender every day with good humour and generosity I'd be either certified or imprisoned. And I NEVER take OH to the shop, its the secret to a happy marriage (that and loads of )

I'm not allowed to do the food shopping I would wander around the supermarket buying things that looked tasty and entirely miss all the 3 for 2 offers

 

OH demands a planned menu for the upcoming fortnight and orders what is needed on line. I am told when to be in for the delivery.

 

Fresh stuff is picked up a couple of times a week on his way home from sports. He stocks up on basics when they are on offer and questions the need for all 'specials' that I request.

 

The only way around his carefully planned and frugal shopping habits are to send DD with him. She seems to be able to get him to buy anything

My DH looked after himself and daughter for 10 years and is very good at economical shopping; and my, is he fast ... zooooooom.

But he fills the trolley with CRUEL food so he's not allowed to do it.

I go on my own while he's at work.

Opposite way round here - never send OH shopping, as comes back with all the fancy stuff, but only enough for the next meal. A shopping assistant once advised him that as he has bought two tins of something, the 3rd one was free, and she'll go and get it for him. He told her he didn't want 3, only 2... Apparently she was quite confused - as was I when he told me!

 

He seriously is completely unable to plan more than one meal in advance - and even then only if the meal is due to be eaten in the next hour or two.

 

It is quite incredible that an inteligent man, who can plan all sorts of things and hold down a responsible job, cannot even make a pack lunch for himself in the morning, as "he doesn't know what he might want to eat by lunchtime".

I shop online usually with the occasional shop at the supermarket, i'm fast he lingers much cheaper online
