The Arrival Of The Mimi Memorial Ex-batts.

Recommended Posts

This morning I drove to my friends house in Bristol to collect my new ex-batts. She'd collected them from the BHWT yesterday for me. The first thing she did when she saw them was phone me to tell me to abort my mission to Hobbycraft where I was going to buy some materials for jumpers. They don't need them! Apparently they've just come out of their second moult, hence why they look so good. They've got a few bald patches and seriosly manky knickers but on the whole they're in surprisingly good condition. They stink to high heaven though  One is alot darker than the other two so I know who she is but the other two are very similar so I think until I know them better one will have a blob of purple spray. Only one of them has been brave enough to go into the run, I hope that after a good nights sleep they'll be feeling perkier tomorrow. No names as yet, will wait until I can actually tell them apart.

Sarah was rewarded with three eggs this morning as payment for looking after them :D I saw the third one being laid, poor girl just stood there and it fell out

Love the new girls Griffin, I know they look well feathered but they still have that look in their eyes don't they that all ex-batts have when they arrive :( .

I'm sure that with you, in no time at all they will be sparkling with mischief, and learning how to do all those chickeny things :D

They look lovely. MIne are all sknaky looking. I haven't named all of mine yet. One has a name - she's the only one that I can tell apart from the rest. Currently her name is.... miss shiny bum hole. The kids think it's a great name!!

She's got a bright red bald bottom, bless her!

Love the name jellykelly :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: , it's really got me chuckling. Any pictures of your girls?

It's that dead look isn't it? :( I cried when I saw one of the photos Sarah put on Facebook yesterday :( I hate to see them so frightened of everything, they had a fit when I put water in the coop :(

Aww bless them :( , I hope they get used to normal love and attention soon. I remember that stink :vom: , it took two weeks for mine to stop smelling when they arrived. They didn't even preen for the first week, it was as if they hadn't even bothered before as they just got covered in filth again. As soon as they realised they would keep clean once they preened though, they began to clean themselves up.

My ex-batts didn't really learn to preen until they saw our new girls (Light Sussex) doing so ... then they got the idea, but they'd still rather spend time looking for food ... unlike the LS who spend a good part of the day just lazing around. It's as if you can't ever fill ex-batts up :(

Bianca, Tiffany and Peggy :D

They've all been out in the run today, they've each enjoyed a couple of mealworms and one of them snatched a bit of cabbage from my hand  They're very interested in my other hens and the feeling is mutual for some of them. Maud, Meredith and Egeltine have had their noses pressed to the bars all day

Bless their socks, they don't understand bed time yet, they'd stay out in their run in the dark so I'm having to hoik them out and shut them away in their coop. They're each laying an egg every day, haven't been put off their stride at all. And they quite like cuddles :D

Bianca, Tiffany and Peggy have had their first free range today. I can't say they enjoyed it, rather they endured it and wondered what on earth was going on :? There were a few minor scuffles which earned my lot a stern talking to, ironically one of the first to dive in was ex-batt Meredith! B, T & P decided safety in numbers was the way to go and together they headed for a sheltered spot under some trees where they are now just standing and staring like this :shock::shock: Or in the case of Peggy, sitting, because that's what she does a lot. I guess she's still very very weak.

I'd removed their food from their run so it wasn't stolen. I turned my back for five minutes and found this:

Awwwwww :lol::lol::lol::lol: ,

I don't know which pics to awwwww and laugh at most. They do look pretty stunned don't they? Knowing ex-batts, in a few weeks I hope they will be fighting for their food with the best of them though.

That photo with them all nicking their food is hilarious :lol::lol: , typical chook behaviour  , somebodyelses food always tastes better don't you know :shameonu: .

As for Primroses expression as she is getting cuddled by her little owner :shock::shock::shock: , well I nearly fell off my chair at that one :lol::lol::lol: , what a good natured chook she is, and welcoming the newbies too, what a star :D .

Bianca & Tiffany were clever enough to put themselves to bed in their coop but were a bit surprised to see Hob"Ooops, word censored!" in there too  She used to live there until they arrived last week, bless her, I turfed her out into her new coop much to her disgust. Poor old Peggy kind of had the right idea, she was stood outside the run trying to figure out how to get back in, she obviously hadn't seen the door wide open :lol:
