Advice on Disneyland Paris - we're back!Photos added.

Recommended Posts

OH and I are toying with the idea of taking the boys to Disneyland Paris this year, (we did the same last year but opted for a tepee in Haye on Wye instead!). Have looked at websites, which are now making my head hurt, various special offers, but I think we are limited due to the fact that there are 5 of us. OH prefers taking own car to give some freedom. Any advice, do's and dont's (apart from don't do it!!! )

ive been a few times, we got a coach trip out of the local paper and managed to get 5 days for the price of 4. which is plenty of time to explore the parks and head into Paris on a evening as well. It depends how much you want to do really, the metro runs from Disneyland into Paris so if you stay in one of the resort hotels then its easy to get around.

Ive stayed in and out of the resort and i definately enjoyed it more staying where everything is on the resort! theres a outside icerink in one of the hotels but is open to the general public and the park itself stays open quite late. We stayed in Hotel Cheyenne whic was one of the cheaper hotels and about a 20 min walk to the park along the river or they ran a shuttle service just outside into the park..

When we stayed in hotel Ibis outisde the park we were very reliant on the coach company giving us times to come back and go out! you get a bit more fredom staying closer to the resort without the hasel of hiring a car. I can probably say i wouldnt want to drive in Paris!! its mad to say the least!!

Hope this helps!!

We used to go with our 4 kids and always took our own car and stayed at the Davy Crockett ranch. This gave us more privacy and freedom. The kids adored it. You still feel part of the Disney world, it has a lovely swimming pool, a small farm, shop and characters roaming around and lots of craziness etc and you collect your breakfast from little chalets.

I have really nice memories of staying there, it was good to have less bustle at the end of very tiring days. We could sit outside with wine, have a bbq, go for a stroll - it all added to the holiday.

We were trying to book for half term but its quite full so are going to Paris instead (with a trip to the WW1 war cemetry after to pay respects to Gt Grandad).

We've stayed in Hotel Cheyenne which we stayed in when the kids were younger, they really liked that one. We also stayed at the Newport Bay one by the lake, that was my favourite one.

Hubby says to make sure you book the meals for the first night before you go. We came a cropper on this when we stayed at Newport Bay and couldn't get a table in the hotel.

We've always driven when we've gone. We've always had a good time there although we've not been for about 5 years so hopefully they would have added a few things.

We did the Buffalo Bill thing one night, that was good. You have cowboys and indians and get given one to cheer for, they ride out on their horses and there are buffalo wandering around. :D

Do the character breakfasts as well, they are really good.

Have fun.

I went a couple of months after they first opened, which was about 17 years ago now (I was pregnant with my eldest, only just,& didn't know it at the time!)

Loved it - we stayed at the Cheyenne too.

We drove & got caught in those awful French lorry driver blockades, but we got there in the end :)

You will need a few days just to see everything - there is even more there now than when I went.

Thanks for all your advice, really useful, especially website. We were thinking about the Davy Crockett ranch, Patsylabrador, your description sounds ideal for us, I don't think OH could cope with being in the middle of it all, and would rather a relaxing end to his traumatic day! Scramble, didn't know about the Welsh festival this year, but it'll help persuade OH to go.

If you stay at the ranch that is quite good for this number as they sleep 6 each, but you do need your own car as it is outside the entrance by 5 mins drive - it has great outdoor space in the summer and its own pool, entertainment & restaurant for when you want to get away. You can self cater and breakfast is provided (you collect it each morning from a little hut by the log cabins.

We have done that and we have staryed in the 'pink hotel' a couple of times - that is the main posh hotel built over the entrance to the park. You just drive up to the door, they unload your luggage and park your car for you and you can be in the park 10 mins after arriving - it is great at night to sit in your room and watch space mountain, etc. in the park. Also you get into the park early DD even opened the park one day with Mickey - 6 kids from this hotel went in before us, met him and opened the park. We found in winter it was great, we would go in the park when it opened, by lunchtime when it was getting crowded you could pop back to the hotel and enjoy the pool whilst everyone else was in the park (and warm up) then go back in later in the day when it was quiter.

We are probably looking at going end of March (to try and get some special offers and tie in with OH's leave), just how cold/wet is it likely to be?

The reason why it was built in this part of Europe was that statistically the rainfall is reasonably low. We have been around that time and in mid-winter (Nov-Jan) - at that time of the year it can get really cold, but you just dress up warm and it is so Christmasy.

We have done it twice. First time a day trip by Metro from our hotel. Second time stayed in Citadines in Nation for 2 nights then took metro and did 2 nights in a Disney hotel. We enjoyed it emensly but take good shoes and depending when you go prepare to queue. I think we may have taken a packed lunch but not sure, its pricey to eat but some places better than others. i wouldn't go again now as boys are older and I think we've exhaiusted it. I personally preferred staying in paris and commuting - tiring but you can be more flexible and see other things - boys loved Eiffel Tower and the Seine - go on Batobus much cheaper than trips. Have fun and Bon Voyage

We went in May 08 with our then 11 & 4 year old boys. We went for 5 nights/6 days ( but only paid for 4 nights) and loved it. We flew, as we are a long way from France here.

We stayed in the Hotel New York, very nice & is the next closest to the park from the Disneyland Hotel.

The breakfasts are really filling, and you can take fruit from it to eat as snacks :D

We asked for a kettle for our room ( there's not one in as standard) and we took our own tea bags, coffee & sugar & made our own drinks when we wanted one. The milk we got from Mcdonalds

We took in water bottles & filled them from the fountains dotted around the park & just outside it.

There are quite a few insider tips site on the web if you search for them, which we found useful.

We had warm weather when we went.

Enjoy!

Me and hubby went the Christmas after 9/11. The kids had been with us to florida but i wanted to go at christmas as a treat for me. I t was lovely, freezing cold, fountains iced up  but still great . We stayed in the Cheyenne but flew there, would go by train if with kids.I remember we had to be at heathrow 5 hrs early !!!! because of 9/11 understandably but so boring for a short trip!

would really recommend the cowboy show thought that was great, better than the Jousting type one we went to in Florida!

Thanks for all advice, have started trying to sort out passports - what fun trying to sort out photos of the boys  Had many a strange look in Morrissons this morning trying to balance my youngest on his booster on the top of the photo booth stool, whilst trying to put the money in and press the buttons and keep his head pointing forward! Anyway hoping to book Davy Crockett for middle of March for 4 nights, going by ferry  . Which ports would you recommend? Will probably have stay locally the night before as we are quite a way away.

There is a family friendly Premier Inn right on Dover sea front. If you can get a room with a view of the harbour it is quite fun seeing the ferries coming in and out. We usually go by P&O for value and amenities, but we like SeaFrance for it's style ( and less school trip bus groups). Also, being French they're not so obsessive with endless Health and safety announcements. Hope you have a great time.

If we go by ferry then we go to Dover, only an hour or so from us. We're going to Paris in February by SeaFrance. They're pretty good. When we took DD for her year in France we went by them but the French had a bit of a strike on (not unusual at all  DD's school and buses were always going on strike) so we were delayed a bit getting in. YS loves going by boat though. Its more exciting for kids than the tunnel. :D

Have a great time.
